“If not for reception, a very good hotel.”
Reviewed 17 June 2014 via mobile

Unfortunately like others here, the reception was very cool to say the least. I was sent to a room that was already occupied! And after traveling for 24hours, I was not happy. The room itself, when I finally got one for myself, was very nice with lovely views. Glad of the warning regarding the complimentary water V's 12rmb water.

Good location, with very nice cleaning staff.

No where to sit but in their cafe/bar area and at $5 for coffee...they could supply some seating in the large and lovely lobby.

The meal on the 3rd floor was very good but all dishes were huge! Their barbecue pork pastry buns were delicious!

All in all I enjoyed my stay.

Only 5-10 minutes walk from the Bund. This hotel is value for money. I stayed in a Superior Room and it was huge and very comfortable.

Chinese Restaurant was nice but didn't have a lot of customers and didn't appear to be set up for many either - still had a nice meal and good service.

Beijing Road isn't great but very close to the shopping of Nanjing Road East and lots of Restaurants nearby.

I will definitely stay here again when in Shanghai.

Room Tip: Superior Rooms are not particularly expensive and really good value

We had reserved a superior room (from floors 8-16) with a city view. When we arrived at the hotel, we received our room key ( on the seventh floor ) and receptionist said that we have a" VIP room". When we went to our room, it turned out that we had a deluxe room ( poorer than superior) with no view (there was a locked balcony blocking the view from the window). After going back to reception and asking for our reserved room, we got very impolite service from the staff, and they seemed very annoyed.
They then gave us a new room key, with no explanations or apologies. The second room we got was on the 16 the floor, and I have to admit, that this was a nice looking room, no complaints there. It's just a shame that the service was so poor at the reception. We felt a little cheated because we were first given a poorer room than what we had reserved.

However, we had some trouble also in this room. The wireless internet was not working at all in the room. I called the reception twice about this, and they promised to send someone to check it, but nobody ever came. It was a real inconvenience not to have functioning internet in the room, like promised during reservation. After calling the first time, I was advised to call the reception again if nobody came. I think it should be the staff's responsibility to follow-up these kind of requests, not the guests.
There was also a very bad smell in the room for the whole stay.

As others have also warned, watch out of the water bottles in the rooms, some are complimentary, but only if they have the "complementary" tag on the bottle, otherwise they are quite expensive.

The only positives during our stay was the location, it's a very central place, and the actual hotel building and the rooms are in decent condition and clean.

Service in the reception is very rude, we were not even greeted when we arrived at the hotel.

This hotel was recently redone and is in excellent shape. The views from the river-view and bund-view rooms are spectacular. If your room is located at the front of the hotel on the street, there can be noise from car horns until quite late in the evening. However, the view is still amazing.
Breakfast is quite good. There are Western items as well (just remember you HAVE to bring your voucher--they are quite strict on this).
And be sure you only drink the complementary bottled water placed in the bathroom and not the water bottles placed on top of the minibar. The front desk staff chased me out on the street to make me pay $12 USD for a bottle of water whose cap I twisted before remembering this caveat. Mind you I never opened it and certainly didn't drink it. But the seal was indeed broken. $12 when the water not 20 feet away was free. Reception needs some lessons in customer service and should have more discretion. They'd have more satified guests recommending them.
Otherwise the stay was fantastic.

Room Tip: Don't be shy. ASK for a bund or riverview room. They didn't cost any more.

This hotel was perfect for what we wanted, warm (it gets cold in Shanghai and we had just come from Thailand), centrally located, and had amazing views of the city at night.
Its not super plush but in decent shape, clean, and reasonable sized rooms and bathrooms.
Great if you're on a mediocre budget and wanna be close to everything.

Room Tip: get a city view room, its worth it

Excellent location - no doubt , one block from nanjing road, not all rooms face bun and most face a dual carriage way road or side street..

room sizes fair , breakfast is not up to 4 star standard and very average ... beware of starrglers outside touting and hustling for business all day ..

Staff in reception speak littile or no english and not helpful by any means ..

Probably will stay some where else next time
