I have just returned from a 3 week trip to China and treated myself to a Junior Art Deco Suite package at the Langham Yangtze Boutique Hotel for the last 2 nights of my stay. Excellent decision! It is a very stylish hotel with immense art deco charm. The package whilst initially appearing expensive was good value with all the inclusions such as breakfast, food and beverage credit, back massage and airport transfer. The hotel is ideally located to the People's Park, Nanjing shopping strip and subway. Getting around was very easy and staff were helpful with directions.Do take advantage of the "happy hour" which includes scrumptious canapes to be enjoyed whilst listening to the piano. Great end to a memorable holiday.

Room Tip: Take advantage of a balcony room if available.

This is a brilliant place to stay in Shanghai. As always, each review is completely subjective as it can only relate very specifically to the room and experience that the reviewer had. I note the odd negative comment in some reviews, but for me it was all just amazing. The room was beautiful, the service was friendly, efficient and helpful, without being overbearing - EVERYONE was great, but in particular Anthony, Mena and Dick you absolutely rock! (from Mr Nicholas). The decor is stylish, understated and elegant - there is a real respect to the period of the building (1934) but with a definite modern edge that pays homage to the stylish past rather than overshadow it. I could go on, but I won't, other than to say that it was just a dream to come back to the hotel after each outing in the vibrant throng that is Shanghai. It's in a great location (just across the road from a Metro), has great food, brilliant service. Get an advance purchase if you can, as there are some considerable savings as it's certainly not a low-end hotel when it comes to price, but really whatever you pay will be worth it if you have the same experience I did. It's confirmed that Langham Hotels are indeed luxurious with a timeless elegance and that they do indeed offer genuine service (to quote their advertising). Treat yourself and stay here.

Room Tip: Don't know the hotel well enough as far as the rooms, however I suggest that if you don't li...

We spend 5 nights at the Langham Yangtze Hotel. The hotel is in one of the great artdeco buildings for which Shanghai is famous for. It has been well renovated, so many of those original features are intergrated in the modern decoration. It offers all the modern amenties. We stayed in a Junior Suite, which was spacious and very well decorated.
The location of the hotel is really convienient as the entrance of the "People Square" underground station is right in front of the hotel.
Breakfast at the Ciao Restaurant was good.
I had a massage at the Spa. It was great and very relaxing, I can highly recommend it.

Service at the Langham is impeccable from the moment you reach the front door all the way up to the room. The vibe is cool art deco. Music and slideshow in the room sets the tone but gets annoying after a few repeats. The gym is well equipped with a lovely spa area - steam, sauna and hot tub. Restaurants are all great from casual deli to modern Italian, elaborate Chinese and well known Japanese. The location is great - next to Nanjing Road shopping, the subway and people's square. After a day of work in Shanghai, I look forward to returning to the peace and quiet of the Langham

Nice hotel in Shanghai convenient for transport though the room overlooked a building next door which was very close and meant the room was very gloomy and dark. Be sure to get a room with an open view. The hotel is near Peoples Square which is convenient though mobbed with people at the weekends and on holidays so getting to and from the hotel in taxis can be a nightmare.

so many times of biz trip to SH, so I have chance to expierence difference hotels.

The hotel locted in the center of CBD with very covinience transportation. it just located at the upside of the metro, you can make transportation via subway from airport to it.

Not like those new built hotels with modern design, this one maintained its original style maybe since 1930's, but when you enter into it, you can find all the facilities are up to date.

The room is big and clean with art deco style which make you feel back to old SH.

the most important part that moved me is: I planned to go out to having dinner with friends, unfortunately, it is off time of CBD, so, taking a taxi is so hard. but the doorman standing in the rain for half an hour to help me for a taxi.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
In the center of Shanghai with endless flow of people, there is a place that could take you back to the 1930s to appreciate the golden age of Shanghai. That is The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai. The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, an Art Deco masterpiece infused with gold age of Shanghai, owns the superior geographical position. Located in the People's Square, centre of Shanghai, the hotel enjoys convenient access to all parts of the city with the Shanghai Metro Lines 1/2/8 less than 30 meters from the hotel. Moreover, the hotel is bordered by major cultural and entertainment highlights within walking distance, such as Nanjing Pedestrian Road, People's Park, the Raffles City, the Shanghai Museum, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre. This hotel attracts guests with its private and graceful environment instead of the splendid and magnificent impression. The stained glass dome looks so gorgeous with carved staircase winding up. The candlelit crystal lighting collocates with palatial valance creating the elegant and sumptuous atmosphere. The unique collections displayed on the wall of guest room floor corridors, such as jewelry boxes, manual-shaving-hair tools, ancient door latch, traditional pipes, ladies' hand bags, Hawksbill needles, cookie boxes, etc, all tell guests the history of Shanghai. Entering each room, the song " Rose, Rose, I love you" reminds each guest of the prosperity of the old Shanghai with its sweet voice and nostalgia melody. Standing on the guest room private balcony, you could feel the quick pace of the modern city while retrospect the past good times at the same time.Yangtze Hotel, the predecessor of The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, opened in 1934, owns 80 years of history. Decorated with lavish art deco style, this hotel was touted as "The Third Largest Hotel in the Far East" by the renowned architect, Li Pan. This hotel used to be a popular social resort gathered many celebrities and movie stars, and it was exactly the birthplace of the most classic and well-known song "Rose, Rose, I love you". In order to inherit this cultural heritage, Yangtze Boutique reserves this song as the background music in the room, and names one suit of room as "Rose Suite" to be one of the signature of the hotel, which becomes the favorites of many guests. Over the past 80 years, the Yangtze Hotel witnessed the ups and downs of Shanghai. In 2009, the Yangtze Hotel was renovated gorgeously and re-emerged in a great sumptuous way, reserving the classic Art Deco design style while mixing the 1930s old Shanghai style together. Just like the time flying back, The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai guides guests back to the glamorous and extravagant life in old Shanghai with great charm and elegant demeanor. ... more   less
