“Great boutique hotel”
Reviewed 24 October 2011

Loved the hotel and location. Plush well appointed rooms and a luxury bath. Very friendly and attentive service. Only area that needs improvement was the concierge staff who were not well informed. Would definitely stay again.

Centrally located, small enough to offer personal service but large enough to have the facilities you need for an enjoyable and relaxing stay. It was appreciated to find English very widely spoken throughout the staff.
Our room was compact, but with all that was needed; large very comfortable bed, work station (with pay internet access!), sitting area, dressing area, with wardrobes and safe, but with a huge bathroom with a monster bath, separate large shower, vanity unit etc. All very clean and tidy.
The food in the Ciao restaurant/coffee shop was excellent if a little expensive with portion size less than generous. The cooking of the signature dish, braised beef cheeks, was outstanding on the first night, while the three course special on the second evening offered a much more complete experience with a lovely ‘assiette’ dessert.

I enjoyed the stay because the hotel was close to the Bund and many shopping areas, bars and restaurants, temples and malls in Shanghai. If not by foot, you can be easily taken to almost any important place within for less than 30 RMB. I always got assisted for booking Taxis or Restaurants by an english staff member and everything I requested has always been taken care of timely and reliably. The rooms very big and cozy, although I did only go there for sleep. The breakfast was not outstanding but ok for the price range of the rooms.

What struck me most were the images on the TV screen that reflects the hustle bustle of the Shanghai in the 30's. A great experience indeed with its nostagic decor and modern facilities. Our room was spacious with two large twin bed. Bathroom was huge and offered both bathtub and shower compartment. Breakfast is standard combination of Western and Shanghai flair, in a chic cafe restaurant.

It is situated right at the heart of Shanghai's busiest shopping district. You can find almost anything you need in less than 1/2 hour of walk.

Will return for sure.

Nice hotel with a fabulous location. Walkable to shopping, museums, peoples park, Nanjing Road.
We stayed in a junior suite. Nice size, great bathroom, modern. The room was dark, but, I believe that was part of the decor. No view, but, location makes up for it. Subway very close.
Buffet breakfast was fine, but, not fabulous. Staff was helpful. English was as good as anyplace in Shanghai, but, they did not always understand what you were saying, but, they did their best.
Over all, it was a satisfying experience, but, not rave reviews.

Room Tip: We had a balcony, but due to weather, did not use it. Our room was very quiet...we could have been i...

I found the Langham Yangtze to be comfortable and a good location for walking. The staff was very pleasant. My room had outlets for U.S. plugs so I could charge my cell and use my lap top and the internet worked well. My room smelled heavily of cigarette smoke so I would ask for a non-smoking room if they have them. There was also no view from my room - the window opened to another side of a building so there was little natural light. There is a large shopping mall directly across the street which is good for walking around too. I was traveling alone and don't like to walk at night alone in unfamiliar cities, so the mall was a good place for me to go.

Room Tip: If you are a non-smoker, ask for a non-smoking room and also request a view, if possible. My room s...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
In the center of Shanghai with endless flow of people, there is a place that could take you back to the 1930s to appreciate the golden age of Shanghai. That is The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai. The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, an Art Deco masterpiece infused with gold age of Shanghai, owns the superior geographical position. Located in the People's Square, centre of Shanghai, the hotel enjoys convenient access to all parts of the city with the Shanghai Metro Lines 1/2/8 less than 30 meters from the hotel. Moreover, the hotel is bordered by major cultural and entertainment highlights within walking distance, such as Nanjing Pedestrian Road, People's Park, the Raffles City, the Shanghai Museum, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre. This hotel attracts guests with its private and graceful environment instead of the splendid and magnificent impression. The stained glass dome looks so gorgeous with carved staircase winding up. The candlelit crystal lighting collocates with palatial valance creating the elegant and sumptuous atmosphere. The unique collections displayed on the wall of guest room floor corridors, such as jewelry boxes, manual-shaving-hair tools, ancient door latch, traditional pipes, ladies' hand bags, Hawksbill needles, cookie boxes, etc, all tell guests the history of Shanghai. Entering each room, the song " Rose, Rose, I love you" reminds each guest of the prosperity of the old Shanghai with its sweet voice and nostalgia melody. Standing on the guest room private balcony, you could feel the quick pace of the modern city while retrospect the past good times at the same time.Yangtze Hotel, the predecessor of The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, opened in 1934, owns 80 years of history. Decorated with lavish art deco style, this hotel was touted as "The Third Largest Hotel in the Far East" by the renowned architect, Li Pan. This hotel used to be a popular social resort gathered many celebrities and movie stars, and it was exactly the birthplace of the most classic and well-known song "Rose, Rose, I love you". In order to inherit this cultural heritage, Yangtze Boutique reserves this song as the background music in the room, and names one suit of room as "Rose Suite" to be one of the signature of the hotel, which becomes the favorites of many guests. Over the past 80 years, the Yangtze Hotel witnessed the ups and downs of Shanghai. In 2009, the Yangtze Hotel was renovated gorgeously and re-emerged in a great sumptuous way, reserving the classic Art Deco design style while mixing the 1930s old Shanghai style together. Just like the time flying back, The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai guides guests back to the glamorous and extravagant life in old Shanghai with great charm and elegant demeanor. ... more   less
