“Excellent Experience”

The Yangtze Boutique is an excellent luxurious hotel.

It is centrally located in the heart of Shanghai. From the moment you enter, you're immediately greeted with the warm fragrance of fresh roses. And then it gets better.

The guests are truly pampered here at the Yangtze Boutique. The rooms are luxuriously furnished. The amenities are of an above average quality from the very well cushioned slippers to the unusually soft and comfortable bathrobes. There is a TV in the bathroom in addition to the main room and the tubs and showers are very spacious and comfortable.

The only minor drawback is that it is not an inexpensive hotel. At $200 per night, some guests may in fact find it quite expensive. But the hotel definitely delivers and its worth every cent.

this was really a luxury (though soulful) experience of shanghai accomodation. even comparing with the higher-rated hotels where i've stayed after the yangtze showed itself as truly boutique hotel, with a unique touch in decoration, premium comfort and excellent location (next to the people's square, 15 min walking from the bund). i booked their art deco room, which was spacious, with big bathroom (ha ha with tv on the wall, felt like in vegas ))) and fine interior details. also was nice of their concierge to give me a really good piece of advice on choosing the right water town to visit and arranged the whole trip for me. breakfasts are good, but a bit expensive.

Wonderful experience, superb location, good breakfast, nice and friendly staff and all that. But …. when I came home I found that I had forgotten several packages of tea and a teapot. May sound little but was actually very, very expensive - as that can be in Shanghai. I mailed the hotel and the friendly concierge (Ray Zhang) found that room service discovered the packages when cleaning. He mailed a photo so I could verify that it was mine and then sent it airmail express and I had it with me in Sweden 4 days later. Tea etc. worth around USD 1.000! So, if you are likely to forget something, don't even think of staying elsewhere!

Room Tip: Higher up and facing the street, unless you mind a bit of street sound

The hotel is located near People Square, close to Nanjin Road, many shops and restaurants are very close. The hotel is in a building of 1935, and the hotel leitmotif is based on that age recalling, beside modern services. Room large and really nice, concierge very helpful and discrete. Italian restaurant (average) at ground floor. Subway station just in front of the hotel, This is really a good location for staying in Shanghai center.

It may be because I am a huge fan of Art Deco, but I found this hotel absolutely beautiful. The service was amazing, and the location can't be beat. The restaurant buffet breakfast, which we had one morning because of laziness, was nice but hugely expensive (westernized).

We were blown away by our room. It was beautiful. We were upgraded to the junior suite room 401. It was absolutely beautiful. The bed was amazing. The only thing I would say for this type of hotel they could improve on service or perhaps communication. After we booked, almost 2 months later they emailed and advised that they didn't charge us the 15% tax as there was an error on their website. hence eventually after back and forth in emails we received the upgrade. We also called 24hrs in advance to change our booking from 2 nights to one which we were told was fine. When we arrived the receptionist said we were down as a no show, and then we had to discuss that we had called, and also then show we had been given an upgrade. Our booking also included extras which we had to ask for and remind them of. So just a bit disappointing that we had to do all this. For this type of hotel I would expect a fairly smooth checkin procedure. I would still recommend, just a little frustrating.

Room Tip: 401 Junior suite was beautiful

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for our anniversary. I chose this hotel based on the high ratings, but after staying I honestly don't know so many people ranked this hotel so high. The rooms were clean and neat, and the Art Deco architectural details of the hotel make it aesthetically appealing. Check in was fast enough but the desk attendant was rather rude. We get up to our room and I draw a bath, only to find out afterwards that the tub drain is not working properly and maintenance to drain the tub. (No apology from the front desk for this.) The AC in the room never got cold, despite having the thermostat set at 18 the room never fell below 21. Some other problems include the service at 'The Bar'; the staff kept disappearing and took ages to get a drink served and equally as long to sign the bill. The real icing on the cake, however, was the 20 minutes it took to check out. This hotel could be great if the staff just stepped up to the job and paid a little more attention to the guests.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
In the center of Shanghai with endless flow of people, there is a place that could take you back to the 1930s to appreciate the golden age of Shanghai. That is The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai. The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, an Art Deco masterpiece infused with gold age of Shanghai, owns the superior geographical position. Located in the People's Square, centre of Shanghai, the hotel enjoys convenient access to all parts of the city with the Shanghai Metro Lines 1/2/8 less than 30 meters from the hotel. Moreover, the hotel is bordered by major cultural and entertainment highlights within walking distance, such as Nanjing Pedestrian Road, People's Park, the Raffles City, the Shanghai Museum, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre. This hotel attracts guests with its private and graceful environment instead of the splendid and magnificent impression. The stained glass dome looks so gorgeous with carved staircase winding up. The candlelit crystal lighting collocates with palatial valance creating the elegant and sumptuous atmosphere. The unique collections displayed on the wall of guest room floor corridors, such as jewelry boxes, manual-shaving-hair tools, ancient door latch, traditional pipes, ladies' hand bags, Hawksbill needles, cookie boxes, etc, all tell guests the history of Shanghai. Entering each room, the song " Rose, Rose, I love you" reminds each guest of the prosperity of the old Shanghai with its sweet voice and nostalgia melody. Standing on the guest room private balcony, you could feel the quick pace of the modern city while retrospect the past good times at the same time.Yangtze Hotel, the predecessor of The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, opened in 1934, owns 80 years of history. Decorated with lavish art deco style, this hotel was touted as "The Third Largest Hotel in the Far East" by the renowned architect, Li Pan. This hotel used to be a popular social resort gathered many celebrities and movie stars, and it was exactly the birthplace of the most classic and well-known song "Rose, Rose, I love you". In order to inherit this cultural heritage, Yangtze Boutique reserves this song as the background music in the room, and names one suit of room as "Rose Suite" to be one of the signature of the hotel, which becomes the favorites of many guests. Over the past 80 years, the Yangtze Hotel witnessed the ups and downs of Shanghai. In 2009, the Yangtze Hotel was renovated gorgeously and re-emerged in a great sumptuous way, reserving the classic Art Deco design style while mixing the 1930s old Shanghai style together. Just like the time flying back, The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai guides guests back to the glamorous and extravagant life in old Shanghai with great charm and elegant demeanor. ... more   less
