In the last night, we planed to have a drink in the terrace, but all tables are full, so waiter suggested us to chill a drink in the Compass Bar. After we went gown the elevator, no waiter stands by the door to welcome guests, and we looked around to find a table. A waitress appeared and told me " Excuse me sir, you wear improper short pants and I am sorry that we have dress code request. You can't enter in the bar." I explained that it's not casual pants, I wear the latest trendy short suit pants! It's FORMAL suit dress code. I don't need you to teach me how to dress genteelly. I lived in Europe for several years and work as fashion& hospitality industry, none of people have ever ever question my stylish taste. Your well-established hotel represents luxury and stylish culture and opens so many haute couture boutiques stores in the lobby, but why does your hotel refuse to welcome customers dressing in Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior Homme? Isn't it ridiculous? Hotel has standard, but please never judge people from clothes.

The Peninsula hotel is the whole package; lovely rooms with extra touches, terrific location on the Bund with extraordinary views, elegant deco inspired lobby serving food throughout the day, including high tea accompanied by classical music, and a helpful staff.
Our room had a amazing view of Pudong and the Huangpu River. The room itself was elegant and large with a huge dressing room and a gorgeous bathroom.
The free internet calls on the telephone, the complimentary shoe shine and the charging docks in the night stands were just added touches that made the Peninsula one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Our room was 611. Request room in front facing the river

The amazing experience that is the Peninsula Shanghai begins the minute you pull up to the front door. You are greeted by name like a long lost friend and the employees can't seem to do
enough for you! Check in was very smooth and what a beautiful room awaits you. Everything is up to date-the hotel is only 5 years old- and beautifully done. The room was beautiful and included a picture perfect view overlooking the Bund. Small touches like the spa music and dimmers in the bathroom, the Nespresso machine, and the DSL line for free long distance calls only add to the experience. Spoil yourself and book the Peninsula when you go to Shanghai!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with views of the Bund

Our expectations for this property were quite high....having read earlier reviews ........but we were quite blown away by the actual experience of staying here ! Right from check in to check out there is a certain amount of precision shown by the staff who go right out of their way to spoil you . Also, the hotel lobby Coffee Shop/breakfast room seems to be a "the place to be seen in " kind of institution for the locals to arrive in their limos and hangout.
The rooms were absolutely fab, updated with all the modern gadgets that one sees in Premium hotels nowadays. Add the eye pleasing beige decor.........add the superb bathroom and separate ensuite room........add the location - right on the Bund overlooking Pudong with a jaw dropping view ...........add the free phonecalls on the AT&T link......... Met a frequent guest who swears that this is the best hotel in China ! Seems a fair assertion for a place where all the guests are treated like royalty !!.Truly an experience of a lifetime...................

if you can afford the extra few $$$, then shell out and stay here if your in Shanghai.
We stayed 1 night and the room/service and view was just spectacular.
we luckily got upgraded to a corner deluxe room with river view of the bund, the weather was lousy but still a great view.
breakfast was included, which was also first class and i had a quick hour in the spa, which was also one of the best I've been to.
for sure will go here again.
its also near lots of restaurants,so also great position.
regards dave

Room Tip: try an dget corner deluxe room, very spacious and great views.
