“One of the BEST views in Shanghai”
Reviewed 8 February 2014 via mobile

Boyfriend & I did a quick stay-cation in Shanghai @ Indigo for 2 evenings just after the start of CNY.

Loved
-the staff: nod to our dude, Jackson @ the front desk...great service!
-the room: 28th floor corner room all glass (providing great views of the Bund when the pollution wasn't too heinous), swanky & mod (not tacky) decor, great bathroom with soaking tub & rain shower & amazing Tibetan rose root toiletries
-overall hotel decor: just like the room...super chic
-Char bar...amazing view of Shanghai from the balcony...the trade-off is the expensive drinks, but that's standard fare for spots on the Bund

The only let-down for us was that the restaurant, Char, which we heard was fab, was closed for CNY

If you don't mind being a little further away from some of the fanfare and shelling out $$ for the view & service-this is your place

We will definitely return

This hotel was very good - rooms fantastic - breakfast fantastic - service impeccable. Location on the Bund great as well, and fantastic view from the bar.

The decorations are very interesting, as with other Indigo hotels - it may not all be exactly 100% to my taste, but i found it very refreshing.

If I really had to look for something that could be improved a little - i would have to say the temperature in the pool was quite cold - but considering that this is the only small thing i can find to mention, I have to say this hotel is really top notch!

From the moment we arrived at the Indigo hotel we fell in love with the style, the service and the most helpful staff. Nothing is too much trouble.
Our room exceeded our expectations with every mod con you could possibly think off. It's the little extras that make your stay so lovely. Everything you could wish for and more. Even sending up ginger tea when the staff realise you are not feeling well and a night cap to make sure you have a good nights sleep.
Breakfast is a very enjoyable experience again stylish, colourful china and a wonderful choice for all tastes, with such attention to detail.
Christoph the General Manager has created a feeling of a very friendly family team spirit atmosphere. Everyone is trained to a very high standard.
We really don't want to leave.

Good location with nice and stunning river view in the night. The hotel lobby and guest room are a bit small compared with the traditional international brand hotels but this one is a boutique hotel which has its own character. The amenities are quite personal. It gives a feeling of being back in old Shanghai of early 20th century. Hotel staff are helpful. The breakfast is rich and with good variety.

I have been visiting this hotel since it opened in 2010, but mainly to dine in their wonderful steak restaurant CHAR. But on this occasion, despite living in Shanghai, we stayed the night and were blown away by the service we received - despite the hotel being full.

Even though this stay was a reward night, my Platinum IHG Rewards Club status ensured I was upgraded to a river view room, and when we asked for an extra duvet it was delivered to the room in 5 minutes.

The room was clean and beautifully appointed and equipped, with the usual high quality bed and sheets that IHG hotels are consistently good at.

The hotel's General Manager seemed to always be at the busiest parts of the hotel, rolling up his sleeves to lead from the front. His young team were attentive and willing, despite the occasional lapse that one comes to expect (and accept) in China.

This really was an enjoyable stay with my family and I highly recommend this hotel for a business or leisure stay in Shanghai.

I had some Indigo experiences.... I have stayed at the Indigo in San Diego, CA and the Indigo in Columbus IN. This is one of the best chain (although it does not feel like) hotels I've ever stayed. And having stayed at many hotels in Shanghai and area, I can say that on this price range (and even slightly higher prices) you will not find anything as good as that hotel. Maybe, just maybe, if you like a slightly more comfortable bed and does not care about all the other great amenities, the stay at the Westin on the Bund.
The staff could not be more helpful. I really enjoy the "not so pushy" bellboys, they offered help, when I said it was fine they literally disappeared!!! I had some bad experiences of what it felt like a stalker bellboy following me to my room....
The reception staff was welcoming and quick... passport, credit card then room keys... no time lost.
The rooms are pretty good! The decor is nice, kind of modern Shanghai. My only (small) complaint was the position of the TV in relation to the bed... it had to be moved to be able to watch.
The bathroom was great. Although I was in the wrong side of the building (damn you, secretary, for booking me on the cheaper side) it was nice to take a shower overlooking the city! And they have the "Japanese" electronic toilet seat. Open the panel and you can also control the seat temperature. It's a good feature, but you always have the impression that someone sat on it before you, and it's creepy because you are alone....
I usually turn the "do not disturb" sign when I get from work in the evening, one night I forgot and someone rang... to my surprise it was a nice shot of Hennessy from the manager (thank you, if you are reading this!). This is the small kind of thing that makes you feel welcomed!!!
The bar on the top is absolutely amazing!!! It was cold as the North Pole and I could only stay outside for a while, but it's worth the view. The drinks are Shanghai-price, yes, they are expensive, but they are mostly well done (exception for a gin and tonic where they put two shots of gin in the glass and just a small amount of tonic and did not leave the tonic can with me).
The restaurant was a bit intimidating for a lonely traveling and I passed on that. It looks great... if you have someone to join you.
But the restaurant where you have breakfast is more than fine. Is had some of the Shanghai noodles (a bit dry, but then it's the way is supposed to be). The view is great and the breakfast is also very good. I love the fresh cooked breakfast.
Swimming pool has a great view, but somehow the water is way too cold. Although the thermometer indicated some 30C, it felt a lot colder. It was nice for an evening swim.
So, if you have to spend some days in Shanghai, stay there! It's close enough to the Bund area, the price is great, the room and amenities are fantastic and the staff is friendly, helpful and no-intrusive.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms with a river view. It's a bit more but totally worth it!!!

This boutique concept is great.. I loved the design, the planning behind every detail in the hotel. The rooms were perfect - the view, the bathrooms, the minibar!!! Breakfast at QUAY was amazing with homemade yoghurt, bread, jams and such. Overall the product is very well done, but the service should be more warm, more pesonalized.
