We have just returned home after 10 day trip to China and our first 4 enjoyable days and nights we spent in Indigo Hotel.
In case someone likes this review and will read our other reviews of hotels and restaurants during this trip please note that we visited every place with our 10 year old daughter.
Of course, many thanks to all fellow reviewers on Tripadvisor, who provided us with a lot of valuable tips and advices!
We arrived quite early, at 8:30 am (it took us 45 min to get there from Pudong airport and cost RMB 170, which is less than $30) and were sure that we would have to store our luggage before our room is ready. But surprisingly room was available! It was Deluxe Old Town view room 1705 for two, but queen beds were wide enough to comfortably accomodate three of us. Great pillows. Both bedroom and bathroom (with both rain shower and bath with TV) were spacious and convenient. Unusual high end toilet system requires some time to understand how to use it. But then one has a lot of fun.
Indigo is a designer kind of hotel and sometimes design interferes comfort. Not here! We liked everything in our room, lobby and restaurants. Old Town view did not disappoint us at all. We would ruther say that now it gives a unique opportunity to see disappearing old streets of Shanghai. And as breakfast area, swimming pool and Char bar and restaurant offer killer view of Pudong and Bund only, it is may be an advantage to have different view from your room. Yes, construction in front of the window is not pretty, but we did not hear any noise.
From the first minute in Indigo we felt great. Room was ready, reception staff was more than kind and helpful, luggage was delivered before we could enter the room and a bottle of very good French wine with a hand written welcome card from General manager awaited. Later Jackson Zhou, assistant front manager, sent another bottle to us... He helped us to check in for domestic flight to Hainan three days later also. Another great manager, Mr. Leon Lu, was extremely attentive to our needs. Numerous small issues were addressed, different reservations were confirmed or done, privat trip to pleasant canal town of Zhujiajiao was organised. And we should mention here that Leon found the most reasonable price for that tour and saved a lot of our money. Thank you again, gentlemen!
Honestly, we can remember only one of Relais & Chateaux hotels in Switzerland where roughly 10 years ago we got such a service.
Location is perfect in our opinion. Hotel is just on the southern end of a "new", prolonged Bund and very close to Old town and Yugarden. We mean walking distance.
Great breakfast! If it is in your room rate you can use an extensive buffet and order one of their menu meals free. Omelet with your choice of anything is highly recommended! Unlimited fresh coffee.
All in all Indigo impressed us a lot. Excellent hotel. Once in Shanghai again we will stay there.
