Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund

You can easily find many 5-star business hotels in Shanghai, but hardly to find a hotel likes Indigo which is great for either business and leisure travellers. The hotel is located in the south of the famous bund of Shanghai where is more quite and has less crowed people walking around, but has the same spectacular view of the bund as the hotels in north of the bund, like Fairmond or Peninsula. The premier room has weonderful view of the river and Shanghai traditional related decoration that is remarkable and very different than the other business hotels. Quay restaurant is another wonderful place in the hotel where you can spending leisure time in reading, surfing the interent and or doing nothing but just enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful views of both sides of the river. The breakfast is much bettern than the other hotels and offers more choices. The hotel staff are less but more professional and effeicient so that you will run into the familar faces at the front desk and also the restaurant that makes you feel homelike and confortable. Hotel is good for the tourist as it's only 10 minutes walk distance away from the famous Yu Yuan Garden where you can explore the truly Shanghai. It's unique and wonderful hotel

Stayed in the hotel for one night with my boyfriend for one night at Chinese new year`s eve, we got upgraded to the premier room with an amazing view of the Bund. There was some fireworks at the midnigt outside, it was beautiful, though a bit noisy, but i guess it s chinese new year and everyone was awake and celebrating! the staffs were all very friendly and nice, and saying happy new year either in chinese or english. xin nian kuai le!

The service here was excellent, from check in to check out. The staff during the breakfast(food was first-rate) were very attentive. The rooms are nicely decorated and the view was spectacular! It has a great location on the end of the Bund, which means not as crowded on your walks along the river. It also has a nice gym and pool, both with great views of the Pudong side of the river and tall skyscrapers. The restaurant and bar on the two upper floors were not open yet due to the newness of the hotel, that was my only disappointment. I am looking forward to returning to this hotel when it is fully open!

Rooms have fantastic design and view of the Bund and are also extremely comfortable. The room was clean and spacious, with furnishings that make it feel more welcoming and inclusive of the area's culture. The staff are conscientious and eager to help with anything you need including side trip arrangements. The range of food meets all needs.

What do you get if you cross an upscale hotel with an art gallery? Hotel Indigo. The rooms, the paintings, the lamps, the floors--all tell a Shanghai story, both old and new. Really nice to see a hotel take some risks. And the view cannot be beat.

Stayed one night there with a friend when I was having a long weekend in Shanghai before hectic Chinese New Year. Didn't know it was a new boutique hotel opened in December before I arrived, but was quite impressed by its inner decor.

Our room had an amazing view of the river and you could tell they added lots of details to the decor. Loved the bathroom design. Feels like a turkish bathroom! Only thing is that you feel you should also get a steam bath after a shower....

There is also a small indoor swimming pool together with a small but top-standard gym. It looks quite sleek. I mean, maybe a bit too sleek to some people.

The most memorable highlight about th hotel though is its breakfast. Plus standard continental breakfast, you get to choose from three different styles of hot meals, which are American, Japanese and Shanghainese. I chose Shanghainese, but I have to say the congee was quite average... However the effort is really commendable.

All in all. it is a great alternative to a generic business hotel. Only wish it could be cheaper..

Dear TraceyTaipei,

Thank you for your feedback.

You will be pleased to know that Chef Julie has added some delicious new items to our breakfast. Try the bread & butter pudding, fresh home style fritatta or the Shanghai style noodles next time you visit. These are all on the kitchen table selection, For many more options check the Quay menu, The Shanghai breakfast is a great way to taste the real flavors of the city.

Neighborhood regards,

Bruce Ryde
