Holiday Inn Express Shanghai New Hongqiao

I arrived at Pudong international airport and I booked this hotel since I had a flight to Qingdao next day from Hongqiao airport. The hotel location is very far from Pudong international airport and since it is new, few taxi drivers now the location. When you come from Pudong yo would pass Hongqiao airport then going to the hotel. Therefore if you are in Pudong airport, the first option is staying a hotel in that area then take a flight to your destination. Otherwise, if you should choose Hongqiao aiport, better to choose a hotel between these two airports. This hotel will be good for a stop-over if you have come to Hongqiao airport and should stay one night then continuing your flight or you are in Shanghai center and wish to be as close as possible to Hongqiao. The room was ok and big enough. The check-in process was a little slow but in comparison to the other holiday-inn express hotels I tried in China their English knowledge could be categorized in goo level. The hotel was new and the internet was free and good quality. Since I was tired I slept and did not test the breakfast. I would choose this hotel in case I would be in the same condition I counted above.

really like the location if you are just on a transit and dont want to stay in the city. its near the airport hongqiao. very close, so getting trains for out of city is pretty easy. its got a carrefour and pizza hut and kfc near by. the hotel manager is a pretty cool lady. very very competent and very caring. shes handling this place pretty well and i would specially like to thank her for our stay of 5 days here in shanghai.

Room Tip: take room no. 907 if your smoking. or take room no. 619 if your non smoking.

I have stayed here 3 times and there is really not much wrong with this hotel

I have met the manageress of this hotel and she really has the place under control, anything that needs to be sorted out then she is right on it.

Place is clean and very well maintained and all for 250 - 300 RMB

Two things that are not OK

1.) There are no glasses for orange juice at breakfast (I hate drinking orange juice out of a mug)

2.) It is a long way out of town, meaning you have to take a cab. This is easier said than done when the drivers dont speak english.

All in all though it is a good hotel

This was an excellent value for my layover between the PVG and SHA airports. I got in late to PVG and took a taxi to the hotel (250 CNY). Then a quick taxi in the morning (34 CNY) to the SHA airport. Complimentary breakfast in the morning was good too.

I stayed at the hotel because I was leaving on a flight the next morning at the Hongqiao airport. Having said that the hotel was not as close to the airport as I thought, it took 20 minutes by taxi to get there. The staff were friendly, the room was spotless and the bed and pillow were very comfortable. The only negative was the fact that the walls were a bit thin and you could hear the next room tv. The breakfast was good however once I left the restaurant I realized that my clothes smelled like the food in the restaurant so a better ventilation system is something that would be welcomed. Overall it was a good stay and I would stay at the hotel next time.

My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for one night.
The staff was very helpful and could understand my english.
The hotel was clean and breakfast was very good. The staff helped with
a taxi the next morning to get us to the train station about 5 miles away.
After a 14 hour trip from the United States it was a good stop before our train ride the
next morning. If I need to make the same trip in the future I will be staying at the
Holiday Inn Express again.
I also had ordered train tickets from another agency, they were delivered to the hotel on time.

We went to Shanghai for two reasons: EXPO and sightseeing. This was our first trip to Asia, so we wanted to stick to North American "name brand" hotels. Unfortunately, most were out of our price range, so we took a shot at this hotel despite there being no English reviews.

The visibility of the hotel from the highway is a big bonus. The drive is approx 25-30 minutes from Hongqiao Airport and will cost about 35-40 yuan. The other Holiday Inn hotel is diagonally across the street, so even if you end up at the wrong Holiday Inn, you can find the correct one easily.

The staff were very friendly. The ones working the front desk had pretty good command of english. They wore a white or blue button up shirt with khakis. The operations staff i.e maintenance and front door were wearing orange golf shirts - poor command of english.

The hotel provides umbrellas for a deposit of 50 yuan. Off to the side of the lobby, there were three computers with free internet access. You have to pay for printing. The spacious restaurant is next to the front desk.

The second floor has coin operated laundry facilities - two washers, two dryers and an ironing board. To operate, you have to buy one token for each machine. A token costs 30 yuan and is available from the front desk.

The rooms were brand new and you can tell by the bathroom, room furniture and flat screen TV. The beds were soft and comfortable.

The free breakfast was available from 6.30 to 10am everyday and located in the restaurant. The buffet provided traditional chinese offerings such as fried rice, noodles, stir fry veggies and sauted veggies. There were western offerings which included ham, sausage, eggs, toast, cereal, coffee, juice, fruit. There are no smoking signs on all the dining tables, although you can expect to find the occasional smoker in the lobby.

Although located on a highway, we were told there were no bus stops nearby, therefore taxi is the only option to reach the E. Xujing metro station. It is the last station on line #2. The taxi ride to and from the metro station is about 12 minutes and will cost 16-20 yuan. It is important to carry the subway map and have the front desk write the name of the station and the address of the hotel in chinese. The front desk will have someone from the hotel hail a taxi.

It took approximately 30 minutes on the metro to get to downtown Shanghai, and approximately 45 minutes to get to the Houtan metro stop for Expo.
