“Excellent Stay”

Had a wonderful trip to Shanghai with Wendy Wu tours but upgraded to Waldorf Hotel had a river view room which had superb views of the river. Toilet seat lifts as soon as you open the door.
Breakfast room was fabulous with a great variety and service.
The long bar was nice but look out on Fri ,Sat ,Sun nights you can only sit in certain seats if you spend a minimum of £25 per person.
The mag lev train to airport was amazing 7mins and goes at 431 mph for about £5.00

Can one do better than the Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue? Yes, the Waldorf Astoria on Shanghai's Bund. The hotel deserves 6 stars, not 5. Everything is impeccable. Would I change anything? Only one thing. Please do not allow smoking in the Long Bar. The oysters at the bar, by the way, are not to be missed--if one loves raw oysters. Is the bar long enough to show the curvature of the Earth? At times it seems it.

I was able to use Hilton Honors points to book a three-day stay at the Waldorf Astoria on the Bund right after it opened in October. Only the historic building was receiving guests, with the new high rise wing not yet connected. Our arrival at 10pm from a Korean Air flight from Los Angeles was greeted by a staff who knew our names and had obviously been briefed on the details of our reservation. The service here was unlike anything I've experienced at any other Hilton property. Everything was flawless, everyone was friendly, every detail was executed with pride in a job well done. Both the manager and his top assistant made a point of introducing themselves at breakfast the first morning. We were grateful for the opportunity to stay in a beautifully appointed suite, one large enough to entertain members of my partner's family...lifelong Shanghai residents who had never stepped foot in this historic building until Hilton opened it to the public. When my partner's father inquired if the Waldorf's 5-star comfort was on a level that I normally enjoyed when I travelled stateside, I had to fess up that his daughter and me had logged many nights of slumber in Hampton Inns, Doubletrees, etc. in places like Gallup, El Paso, Tacoma and Sacramento in order to get through the Waldorf Astoria's front doors. Ah well, it was all worth it (except for that one night in Las Cruces...)

Room Tip: Hit the Long Bar for its great martinis and even greater atmosphere!

We celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary at Pelhams, and although we made no mention of this when we booked, the Sommelier asked how we were that evening and we responded that we were very happy to be celebrating such a special occasion. He congratulated us and must have gone to have a word with the Chef, Brian Chan, because before we knew it he was back with a lovely surprise dish for us -- compliments of the Chef! The rest of the meal was just as spectacular -- every dish was perfectly prepared, absolutely delicious and brilliantly presented -- and the service was superb! We ordered dessert and then they surprised us again -- with a beautiful cake bearing a chocolate decoration that said "Happy Anniversary!" What an incredible thing for them to do! The Chef came out to offer his congratulations and we couldn't compliment him enough on his food and the experience. This is one restaurant not to be missed while you're in Shanghai!

The hotel is in a historical heritage on the bund, and the bund represenst the most old Shanghai impression, more European style. It's so cool for me to stay in a historical heritage but have luxurious living inside. Beyond words I can express my enjoyment of this hotel.

I stayed here recently on a business trip to Shanghai, when my tried and true hotel, The Puli, was booked. I must say, I've found a new favorite.

The Waldorf Astoria is fantastic.

First, check-in was impeccable. I arranged a car service from the airport and was greeted right out of my car by a front desk employee who showed me to my room. Not being one who likes opulent accommodations, but rather modern - the room was a surprising mix of classic stylings in a modern fashion.

A few favorites of the room include: BlueRay player, completely electronic lighting/shades, large LED TV, rainforest shower, TV in the bath mirror, and the automatic Toto toilet (which candidly took a little getting used to).

Room service was also good - though the few dishes I got (admittedly American) were small portioned.

Downstairs, the Long Bar is quite impressive and reminds me of what the bar in the original Waldorf must have been like when it opened.

Overall, if you've ever traveling to Shanghai, you have to make this your hotel of choice.
