The rooms are very spacious with two double beds (2 queens perhaps?), a desk, minibar, flatscreen TV with views onto the neighboring mall and to industrial/agricultural sites beyond as well as high-rises in the distance.
The hotel, now renamed as the Qube, is closer to the Pudong airport than to the city or the Bund. It is a short block (200m) away from the subway entrance - Chuansha and right beside a shopping mall. I stayed there on my last night prior to departure. Probably would not want to stay here more than that unless you don't mind the transit time into the city.
The cost was under $100 and included internet, breakfast, and a shuttle bus service to the airport. I did not use the other hotel amenities but the breakfast was very good with a wide variety of selection which was kept fresh and stocked. I would recommend this hotel for a brief stay without hesitation with the caveat that location is distant from the city.

Room Tip: Higher floors may be a bit quieter. Likely have a better view.

Location
The hotel is located close by to the Metro stop "Chuansha", this stop is the 5th stop from Pudong International Airport and takes around 15-20 minutes. I highly recommend the metro from the airport because I got quoted 300 RMB by taxi (which also takes around 20 minutes) where as the metro was 4 RMB. Once you come out of the metro you should see the building and its about 5 minute walk but there are plenty of taxi's outside if you need assistance with luggage.
Around the hotel there is a small shopping mall which lots of different shops including grocery computer and clothes shops. There various chinese restaurants and some american fast food restaurants such Mc Donalds and Papa John.
To get to downtown on the metro to say Peoples Squares takes about an hour but is on the same line. They do i believe offer a free shuttle but when i called at the airport there was at least an hour wait and apparently it takes 40 minutes, so metro is a lot quicker.
Room
The room is actually quite large and has all comfort amenities such as a large flat screen TV, a good desk with comfortable chair, a mini couch and table and the bathroom has both a bath and Shower. The internet is only cable not wifi which is a bit annoying as the cable is rather short. The room was on the 12th floor and offered a decent view from the glass to floor windows. There are plenty of mirrors and very good lighting options including dimmer switches. The king size bed was the highlight of the hotel, it was extremely comfortable soft and large and slept very well. All in all the room decor was dark and relaxing but nothing special, it had good cupboard space and the curtains are able to completely block out all light from outside enabling sleep during the day. The bathroom was airy and with the bath had typical window to room with electronic shutters, the shower was very good with rain shower above and small detached one, all very clean. There was plenty of amount of amenities but not branded and not partially special. The TV is good size but is limited for english speaking channels (MSN, HBO & CNN only). All in all room was very clean, spacious and comfortable.
Facilities
The hotel has three restaurants, a bar and spa gym area. Only used the main one for breakfast and had room service. Room service was adequate, ordered club sandwich which arrived in less than 20 minutes (1.30am), it tasted good but was simply presented but at 60RMB it was ok. Breakfast was ok, plenty of asian options, western options include chicken sausage, bacon, egg, waffles, pancakes and beans. All presented buffet style. The food was again adequate with plenty of bread and pastry options. There was also a salad bar but a limited amount of fruit and some of the meats was left uncovered. Bread though was very fresh and service was ok, staff fairly welcoming and offer to get hot drinks, food was replenished quickly and plates were cleared frequently.
Didn't visit the bar or other restaurants but did see the area's and looked ok. Visited the gym and spa area but didnt use, the gym was quite good with modern equipment and clean. The Spa offers massage but found it a bit expensive so didnt use. (Massages around 400 RMB for an hour). The general decor is modern but somewhat tacky.
Staff
Staff were in general ok but not the most helpful. The front desk whom were the only staff that spoke good English were fairly quick in check-in and check-out but with questions such as transfer and time to downtown was instructed to speak to concierge. Concierge spoke very little English and so was not so helpful.
Overall the hotel was fine and good for the price 700 RMB with breakfast. The location is ok if you need to be close to PVG airport but not so great to get to downtown area.

The Qube - Previously known as Howard Johnson hotel ... you need to get the name right as it is hardly visible otherwise.

The hotel is nothing short of amazing value for money. Huge rooms (better than most 5 stars), free wi-fi, clean carpets, English speaking staff and practically every facility you can ask for in a decent hotel.

Satellite television service also available along with Pay TV for lonely nights in China. The spa is pricey but if you are up to it, it is very good value for money too. Very professional.

Only about 20 minutes from Pudong airport, if you are planning to stay and look around in Shanghai with or without family, its an amazing place. However, in case you need to take flights from Hongqiao airport, you may want to think about it.

Overall a wonderful experience and most recommended.

The only reason I stayed here was because of the Typhoon that knocked out all the flights for 12 to 18 hours on August 8th 2012. The storm had canceled all flights and instead of sleeping at the airport and because of the Ramada was already full I found this on a iPhone ap for about $125 a night. They gave me a 5 floor room which was okay but not great by any means. But since most other international travelers spent 2 hours to get back to the city I was glad to get this hotel and it only took us about 20mins to get to the Cube. Rooms are a little out dated and there was only CNN to watch. The bar was ok but not great and the food was way too salty.

This was the closest hotel I could find that was not already booked. It’s about 10kms and 50~60 RMB taxi ride from the airport. So if you cannot get out of PVG and cannot get the Ramada this is an option, but not recommend for more than one night.

Room Tip: do not get a 5th floor room - Very noisy
