“Great stay, wrong location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2011

Stayed two nights in this really nice hotel before I realized it took too long to get to work and transferred to Marriott Hongqiao.
Overall very good hotel, very nice room, great bed but average breakfast and not very good english skills of the concierge. Executive lounge was nice.

After spending a week traveling in the back woods of China I arrived at the Courtyard totally expecting a typical Courtyard experience. What a shock to find a modern 30 story building outfitted more like a Ritz Carlton. It is beautiful from the moment you step in the door. The staff is very friendly and anxious to help. I was checked in with lightening speed and up to my room in no time. The room was incredible and looked brand new. The onsite restaraunt was terrific I just couldn't believe it was a Courtyard that I am used to stateside
It was hard to go home!

We stayed for a few days recently before boarding a cruise ship. We had a room on the 30th floor and had use of the executive lounge where we had breakfast and eats at happy hour. The menu was not big but surprisingly quite a selection of alcohol was provided. We were not given the option to have breakfast in the restaurant MoMo where other guests from other floors ate. Not sure if the breakfast there was any better.

The room was nice and clean and the staff pleasant. The hotel was not in a good area but is convenient to stations.

Oh and don't use the internet. It was subcontracted and the terms were not clearly displayed. You pay for an hour's block, even if you just use five minutes to check your mail. They don't tell you you cannot use the 55 min later that you had not used.

Simply put: the providers are crooks! It certainly made a bad mark during my stay. For me I won't stay there again for this one thing. Hate to be cheated.

Since my cmpany refused to put me in a $250/night Marriott, the Courtyard Puxi was fine since it was under $100. I was skeptical since most of the time you get what you pay for. I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel opened in Sept/Oct 2010, so everything was new. The rooms were modern and very clean. Bed was comfortable, internet was fast, and many English TV channels. I appreciated this after staying a week in another hotel in Liyang, with BBC being the only English channel. The hotel rate also included buffet breakfast in their 2nd fl cafe, which was very good with both western and Chinese food.

Unlike the US, the courtyard has a VIP lounge for elite members which has a great buffet breakfast and decent evening fare. Breakfast included western items, scrambled egg, boiled egg, beacon (stay away, China does not know how to make beacon), ham, corn beef, oatmeal, cereals, fresh fruits. The Chinese items included dumplings, roast pork or pork bun (bao), and stir fry noodles. At evenings, the lounge has chicken, beef, sushi, noodles and dumplings, fresh fruits and all sorts of deserts. Beer and hard liquor were also available for free. The coffee is made to order from a machine that brews individual cups and choices included expresso and lattes. I used points to extend my stay and it didn't include the breakfast in their cafe so the VIP lounge was more than adequate.

The location is very convenient. Metro (subway) is 1/2 block away, which is 2 stops to people's square where you can connect to almost all Metro lines, or walk on Nanjing Rd (street turned into pedestrian mall) all the way to the Bund. The Shanghai Railway Station is 4 blocks away and across the street from it is the bus stop for the #5 to Pudong airport (cost less than $4). Taxi from Pudong Airport is about $30. All around are small restaurants, including 3 McDonald, 3 KFC, & Starbucks for those who must have western food. Department store is 2 blocks away (Pacific).

Staff was great and almost everyone spoke English!!! There were 3 very helpfull and friendly young women working in the lounge.

I have been traveling to China an average of 8 times per year for the past 7 years and I have stayed in MANY different 4 and 5 star hotels in Shanghai. I must say that my experience at the Courtyard Puxi Marriott has been my BEST hotel experience EVER in Shanghai. The hotel is new, bright and clean. The rooms are spacious and the bed very comfortable. The location is fabulous, a long walk or a short taxi ride to People's Square and Nanjing Road where you will find plenty of entertainment and restaurants.

The hotel has an amazing restaurant called MoMo. The breakfast buffet is delicious with plenty of choices (although a little pricey). The lunch at Momo's is the best value, for 88rmb you have a huge buffet with plenty of delicious hot and cold dishes, an amazing variety or dishes. I also tried the signature MoMo burger for dinner which was delcious.
The staff at the restaurant is friendly, helpful and they speak English well (a rarity in Shanghai). We were very impressed with the staff at the restaurant, they went out of their way to please us. I had the tiramisu from the buffet for dessert one afternoon and it was fabulous. My colleague wanted one as well but they ran out on the buffet table so one of the amazing waiters (Simon) went to get my colleague a Tiramisu dessert from the a la carte menu, apart from it being delicious, it was a great gesture.

I would highly recommend this hotel, I am not sure who is training the staff but they are doing an amazing job, from the receptions desk, to the check-in, to cleaning staff, they are all wonderful. They have created a wonderful ambience in the hotel. From a brief encounter with the hotel Manager of Operations, we could see his professionalism is trickling down to the staff!

Very new hotel. Modern, clean room. Nice exercise facility and pool. For a tourist, the location is not ideal but far a business traveler, they do an excellent job of giving a westerner a confortable stay away from home.

I spent 4 nights in a Club room at the Courtyard Puxi because it seemed like excellent value for its location, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The hotel is quite new and stylishly appointed. Lobby, restaurants and common areas are elegant and modern, and the rooms felt large and open thanks to lots of light wood, clever concealed lighting and large windows. Bathroom was modern and spacious, good desk and sofa, and the room was generally a pleasant place to be. Shower temperature wasn’t always constant, but the differences weren’t great so it was more a minor inconvenience than a massive annoyance. Bed wasn’t as soft and comfortable as the usual Marriott beds, but still very good.

The top floor (30th) is dedicated to the club lounge and club rooms, so all have great views. The club lounge is huge with a variety of sofas, chairs and tables available. As usual every night there’s a selection of food (dumplings, sushi and various hot appetizers), deserts and cheese for 2 hours plus wine and spirits for 4 hours. All complimentary and all excellent, although repetitive after a few nights. You also get a few computers and a printer, free wifi and breakfast although my room rate included the buffet in MoMo Café which was great and had a good variety of western and asian foods, although the hot food buffet was consistently cold as the heat lamps just weren’t able to maintain the food at temperature. So get in as soon as the food is replenished or have the breakfast chef make your food for you.

Great location, not central on the Bund or People’s Square, but the walk will only take 15 minutes and it’s only 2 stops away from People’s Square on the metro (and only a short walk to the station). English wasn’t a problem. Hotel seemed generally quite quiet and peaceful, perhaps because it’s not really in the main tourist or business area. I always stay at Marriotts and thought this would be a step down because it was the Courtyard brand, but that definitely wasn’t the case. Would come back again.
