“Wonderful hotel in the Entertainment District of Shanghai”
Reviewed 20 May 2012

I stayed at the Langham Xintiandi, Shanghai for 5 nights and organized a business conference here. I have nothing but positives to share about this hotel.

To start off, the rooms are simply too good. The views from the rooms are excellent. The bathrooms are superb , especially the Japanese robotic hot seats!

The food and services are excellent. The location could not be better - the european city center like cobble stoned areas nearby. The great tourist locations like Yu Garden, People Square , Bund , Pudong area are all close by - a taxi ride costs you only 4/5 USD!

The conference facilities were excellent. The gym and heated swimming pool are excellent. This is a premium hotel, but you get your money worth in every way. I highly recommend this hotel for business or leisure. You are in the lap of luxury! Enjoy every minute here!

This simply sets the benchmark for hotels in this price bracket. The hotel is located near the French Concession district, shopping, bars, bistros, restaurants, malls, all within minutes. We were asked if we wanted to upgrade to the Langham Club at check-in. Usually this is some sort of scam, but not here, do the maths. Bigger room (OK so what) but access to the Langham Club for our 6 night stay was well worth the extra. Breakfast included; tea or coffee anytime; tiffin from 3.30 - 5.30.pm; cocktails from 5.30.- 8.30.pm (this means anything champagne; wine; spirits; etc.); nibbles until 8.30. (this is like dinner where the chef cooks what you order - just like breakfast); check-out in the club not at reception. The service in the Langham Club and in reception was impeccable. The room upgrade meant a larger room with a wet room that had two showers, one of which was a rain shower, plus large bath. The toilet was amazing "look no hands"! Restaurant downstairs was super. This is the third Langham (Hong Kong and the other in Shanghai) we've stayed at and we can't find a fault with any.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Langham Club, we found it real value for money.

My past experience with staying at international-chain hotels in Beijing was so disappointing that
I did not have high expectations for the Langham, Xintiandi. Surprisinly, service was very attentive and prompt, the room I stayed (a standard room) was spacious, equipped with Toto washlet for the toilet, the bath room floor was heated and the bath had rain shower. The esthetitians at their Chi spa were accommodating, pleasant and posessed a relaxed calmness that fit with the spa's ambiance.

There are two instances where I saw opportunity for improvement. These can probably be attributed to a local cultural trait: I saw a cigarette but on the floor which was soon disposed by the hotel staff and one of the hotel staff putting guests into a taxi slamed the front passenger seat's door after he finished giving directions to the driver in Mandarin and saw me off as I sat in the passenger's seat in the back. Aside from them, my stay was very pleasant.

You cannot fault this hotel in any way. From the smooth check in and free room upgrade, thank you, to the buck rogers style toilet with its numerous buttons, this place is amazing.

Staff are attentive, the room is huge and contains all the latest technology. iPhone dock and speakers, a 50inch plasma, roll top bath, rainforest shower and free mini bar to the tune of 200yen a day.

The surrounding area is perfect and very safe. Youve got Louis Vuttion and the Apple store right on your door step and also loads of cool restaurants and bars.

If you are visiting Shanghai make sure you stay here.

Room Tip: Try and get a room high up, the Chinese love to honk their car horns all night long!

Shanghai has no shortage fo great hotels, and in a city the size of Shanghai location is important. So far, this is my favorite hotel. It is new, luxurious and the room technology was intuitive to use. The service is excellent, and it is easy to get to anywhere in the city by taxi. The health club is a 4 on a scale of 1-5. I also really enjoyed the stylish terrace bar on the 5th floor overlooking Xintiandi.

I will add that due to the acoustics of the neighborhood, in my room I could hear cars honking quite clearly even though I was on the 16th floor.

I have been in this hotel twice, the location is perfect, right next to a shopping center, subway station and xintinady restaurants and bars. Breakfast and tea time are delicious, the chef is form Spain and he was kind ant took a moment to suggest some specials. Don't miss the pink chocolate fountain at tea time, with tine churros. The rooms were nice, shower was huge and view from the room was fine. One of my favorite hotels.
