The hotel is advertised as a ‘International Business Hotel’. There was not many international travelers staying when we were staying there for 7 nights.
On our arrival there was confusion about our booking. It took us 30 minutes to get booked in. Our first impressions were not very good, seeing the hotel had been booked through a travel agent, many months ago. The lobby was cold, and smoke filled, despite the hotel displaying ‘No smoking’ signs.
The hotel breakfast is purely catered to the local Chinese cuisine, which was mirrored in the evening meal. Western style food was not readily available.
Our room was adequate, but we were moved on our third night at 9:00pm at extremely short notice without any explanation. We were upgraded to a better room, but despite our request for an explanation from the management, none was forth coming.
I developed a severe bout of diarrhoea on our forth night, due to eating in the hotel restaurant the night before.
There was a heavy military presence with numerous Chinese naval officers present, presumably attending various meetings within the hotel, but the hotel is also located next to a Red Army barracks, so if staying in Shanghai it is best to stay in the tourist areas.
English is limited, the hotel could do with a refurbishment, the windows lobby cleaned, and the hotel reclassified downwards for international travelers.
