Visited the museum whilst waiting for the Maglev train, which doesn't start travelling at high speed until 3 pm. Interesting displays showing how the train travels along.

Not great. But, if you have time to kill at the Maglev station, you can spend about 30 minutes here. History of Maglev trains and technologies in Germany and Japan. And, how the Maglev train works, they have samples of track etc..

Coming into Pudong airport in the evening around 8pm, I did not want to hassle or haggle over price with a cab driver, so I decided to take the maglev train. The signage after you go through customs is excellent, so it was easy to follow the signs to the maglev -- just be sure to make the right turn when the sign points that way. Make sure you show your airline ticket for a 10 RMB discount (40 instead of 50). At almost 200 mph, it was a smooth and quick 5-6 minute ride to Longyang station, where it was again easy to follow the signs and cross over to the metro. For English speakers, you can press the English button on the kiosk to make it easy to purchase your ticket -- just select the station you're going to and make sure you have cash (get it at the airport if you need it). It was just another 10-15 minutes (5 stops) to the Pudong station (Lujiazui) -- for less than $1 -- which lets out right at IFC mall. The Ritz Carlton is attached to the mall (lots of signage in the mall), and the Shangri-La hotel is across the street. Other Pudong hotels are nearby.

If you are interested to find out more about your journey and the technology behind the world's fastest train, then take a visit. It is either free or reduced entry if you show your maglev journey ticket...so ask to retain it at the barrier.

Shanghai has an amazingly fast train, quite a nice experience, the only negative is the shoddy interior - feels like taking a train in an outer province just going much faster
