Andaz Xintiandi Shanghai
Ranked #29 of 5,137 Hotels in Shanghai
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 16 July 2012

Pros - Location next to Xintiandi & subway station. Free simple food & drinks in lobby & in room. Very comfortable bed. Big table. Automated washlet & blinds. Thick bathrobe & slippers. Two types of shower heads. Speaker in bathroom. Good quality toothbrush. Friendly staff. Public area is not crowded/noisy.

Cons: bathtub water level is surprisingly shallow. Very poor quality shampoo/conditioner/moisturizer despite the brand. Small shelf/lighting too dim in toilet. No single bedside panel can control all light settings. Master switch is not near door. No lounge chair/sofa. Limited local tv stations.

Room Tip: One side faces Xintiandi and the other LV store with interesting light display.

I travel extensively throughout the world for business and pleasure, and this is one of my favorite hotels anywhere.
The location is great - in the center of the city. The lobby and public areas are cool and comfortable. If you're a swimmer, the 15 meter pool is a great way to start (or finish) the day.
The room has a number of fun lighting settings to help set the mood, and the bathroom is consistent with what you would find in a high end spa.
Highly recommended if business or leisure travel brings you to Shaghai, and I will look to stay in Andaz properties in other cities based on my experience at the Shanghai property.

First time test for this Hyatt brand, I am positively impressed: the hotel, opened a few months ago in the most luxurious shopping area of Shanghai, offers excellent large room in architect's design (the fluoreshent bath is a must-see), stunning view on the city and very good common areas and food facilities. Staff are willing to help and extremely friendly but still professional. A bit more of spoken english would be the only improvement I may recommend. Strongly recommended for your stays in the city.

It looks like all of the soft open kinks are worked out. My last stay was finally up to par (with the exception of the sauna being OOS).

The hotel "lounge" (read: lobby) is the highlight. I am not a person who hangs out in the lobby, but this hotel makes the lobby lounge inviting- just like you own living room (but larger and with table service!) Excellent food and drink options, great design/art books, comfortable seating. Perfect place to order lunch or enjoy your free morning coffee/muffins or evening wine service.

With the exception of a few night in the Park Hyatt every now and again (my fly-in/fly-out days whilst in town for work), the Andaz is now home.

Also, the Xintiandi location is great. Check out T8 for some excellent fine dining.

Room Tip: upgrade to a large kind if you want a real desk...

Andaz Shanghai was recommended by a friend and it is a new brand for the Hyatt group. From the moment we stepped in the door we knew we were in the right place for us. From the funky reception area, the warm welcome and help from all the staff, The fabulous rooms with the colour schemes you can choose to suit your mood. Fabulous bathrooms that I would gladly have at home. Breakfast was included in our rate and the choice of Western or Chinese was endless and of the highest standard. The wonton noodle soup made on the spot with the condiments of your choice was the way to kick start the busy day. Sunday Buffet brunch is definitely a day to put aside for a lovely long lunch and take the Champagne option, free flowing Perrier Jouet! Great location next to shopping and a funky food district, great massage at the soon to open Optime Spa (i was lucky enough to get some trial massages), check out the swimming pool and state of the art gym, even if you don't use them, have a look!. Andaz is my choice of hotel in Shanghai now, even the toilets give great service! Andaz is more than just a hotel, it is an experience.

Room Tip: If you can upgrade to the large rooms, we were in 1001, you will be amazed. we felt like we were in...

Hotel is very cool, modern and has a great features. It's also located in a very hip, convenient part of town.

On the other hand, service is absolutely terrible. First off all, the hotel is incredibly understaffed, probably because no one stays at the hotel. Oftentimes, there was no one at the desk in the evening. Management is also rude and does not put the customer first.

I'm surprised that this hotel is allowed to call itself a Andaz and be part of the Hyatt brand.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room
