STAY AWAY FROM THIS UNCIVILIZED LOCAL HOTEL MASQUERADING AS SOMETHING BETTER!

I've stayed at the Hanting Seasons Kangding Lu hotel for one month (foolishly paid in advance) so I know it quite well. Some of the staff tries hard and acts nice, bless their hearts, but they contradict themselves constantly and don't speak any English. Luckily, I can communicate in Chinese. The hotel is pretty new, but the walls are paper thin and 90% of the guests are from the Mainland--which too often means extremely inconsiderate and loud throughout the night, including music, screaming, leaving their doors wide open, etc.

This story says it all: I specifically requested a non-smoking floor but was placed on a smoking floor. When finally they agreed to move me to a non-smoking floor, I settled in but eventually a strong cigarette smoke odor pervaded my room. It turns out that, despite the non-smoking symbol on every door on this floor, NEARLY ALL OF THE LONG AND SHORT TERM RESIDENTS ON THE NON-SMOKING FLOOR SMOKE! In fact, one of the girls at the front desk freely puts smokers on the non-smoking floor and won't tell them not to smoke. Today, in a room across the hall, a Hanting sales manager and a few staff members were sitting in a guest room smoking (!) like chimneys themselves (it reeked of cigarettes), but this sales manager acted as though I was wrong for complaining. I repeat: the MANAGER does not even follow the rules and smokes on the non-smoking floor. It is like the theater of the absurd in China so often, but after several years in this country, this situation ranks as one of the more memorable. Despite making friendly complaints 10 times, they won't do much of anything about it. One time the desk manager explained that my neighbor does not smoke but her frequent male visitors (hmmm) do--and considered this okay. Finally, the manager who smokes told me, with annoyance, that since this lady with the male visitors pays more for her bigger room, her preference to smoke overrides my preference that the hotel uphold its own no-smoking rules. This same manager once even said that while each room door on this floor has a picture of a cigarette with a slash through it—the universal no smoking
sign---that these signs only mean that smoking is not allowed in the hallway. In the rooms it is okay (!) lol. (Though that contradicts common sense and what every other hotel employees admit).

A hotel that advertises a benefit but does not provide that benefit is not an honest hotel. A hotel that laughs and jokes after a customer complains many times about such a problem is not a quality hotel. A hotel that does not care about its customer's health is a nasty hotel.

Is there anyone in the Hanting organization who actually cares about providing honest and healthy and high-quality service to its foreign customers? Does anyone at this hotel care about following the hotel's own rules? At least proving the safe air quality that it promised when it took my money for the month's stay? Maybe the CEO cares about doing that? Maybe that CEO should feel SHAME for pretending to be a high class hotel. And maybe Hanting should eliminate the "no cigarette" signs on 21st floor because they encourage smoking there anyway? What a loss of face for Hanting and China, frankly.

Room Tip: Only come here if you smoke and don't mind wearing ear plugs to sleep.
