I stayed at the JW Marriott Shanghai for over 100 days (multiple trips) between April 2012 and February 2013. The staff is amazing and the service is exceptional. Breakfast is respectable, but very expensive. The executive lounge is one of the better Marriott lounges that I have been to in Asia. Great views, ok food, and one of the most relaxed Marriott lounge alcohol policies - beer served from 5:30 to 9 and wine until around 11:30. The location of the hotel is very convenient. Subway lines 1, 2, 8 are less than a 5 min walk to the hotel, and can you get you to most of the touristy places in the city under 15 minutes. The taxi stand at the hotel can have a wait up to 20 minutes around dinner time and on rainy days, but the wait is typically under 5 minutes. My biggest gripe with the JW is with the building itself. The building is in a major need of a refresh. It is obvious that the building was not waterproofed correctly, and almost all rooms smell like mold/mildew. The room finishes also look a bit tired.
