We stay at this hotel almost exclusively while in Shanghai It's simply the best Marriott property we have stayed at here. Right next to the Peoples park and close to shopping of all sorts. . The hotel is very comfortable with large well light rooms with all the amenities one would expect from a Marriott. As a Platinum member we have access to the Executive Lounge (which is on the 59th floor, Awesome view) which has a great breakfast Buffett in the morning and drinks and canapé at night. There are good restaurants in the hotel to meet your all culinary choices. Would defiantly recommend this hotel on a visit to Shanghai.

Great location right next to the Peoples Park - walking distance to Nanjing East Road and near Shanghai Museum. Gold member upgraded to corner room with great views and access to Executive Lounge for breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails. If you want to try some local breakfast foods, go out the side entrance and cross the street - there is a lady who cooks great scallion cakes. Free shuttle at 6pm to the Bund - beautiful night view. Walked backed to hotel (30 mins) along Nanjing East Road - lovely. Enjoyed seeing the ballroom dancers near Wing On department store. Famous dumpling restaurants 2 blocks away - just ask the concierge. Try the spa - great massage.

Stayed at the JW Marriott and loved it. Was there only one night at the end of a trip from Hong Kong to Shanghai. Had been suffering from Jet Lag all week and it was the first proper sleep I had. I put it down to one of the nicest beds I have slept in! Breakfast was good, area could be a little bigger considering the number of people there at peak times. View from hotel is fantastic. Very good location.

I stayed at the hotel in October 2013 and used the executive lounge for my business meeting. Our meeting was half an hour longer than we expected, and the staff did not charge me additional fee. Nicole, Anna and Chris helped me set up and clean the room, treated me very special. I appreciated their service and would definitely come back for more business activities.

After spending a few weeks in Beijing to see my brother, we decided to take a long weekend trip to Shanghai as neither of us had ever been. After reading other TA reviews and doing some of my own research, I decided to use some Marriott points and book the JW in this location. We were pleasantly surprised to see how close the hotel was to a lot of places we wanted to check out, such as the Shanghai Museum, "fake market," and a few xiao long bao spots popular with locals. The views from the lobby and guest rooms are amazing, and we were never more than a 20-25 RMB cab ride from The Bund or French Concession.

The staff and level of service we received were also incredible; I would absolutely recommend a stay here and hope I have a chance to go back one day!

I stayed at the JW Marriott Shanghai for over 100 days (multiple trips) between April 2012 and February 2013. The staff is amazing and the service is exceptional. Breakfast is respectable, but very expensive. The executive lounge is one of the better Marriott lounges that I have been to in Asia. Great views, ok food, and one of the most relaxed Marriott lounge alcohol policies - beer served from 5:30 to 9 and wine until around 11:30. The location of the hotel is very convenient. Subway lines 1, 2, 8 are less than a 5 min walk to the hotel, and can you get you to most of the touristy places in the city under 15 minutes. The taxi stand at the hotel can have a wait up to 20 minutes around dinner time and on rainy days, but the wait is typically under 5 minutes. My biggest gripe with the JW is with the building itself. The building is in a major need of a refresh. It is obvious that the building was not waterproofed correctly, and almost all rooms smell like mold/mildew. The room finishes also look a bit tired.

I stayed at this hotel for 10 days in October of 2013.

Location
The hotel is located on Nanjing Road West, which is one of the most popular East-West roads. To the West is a fake market and further afoot luxury stores and the Golden Temple. To the West is the pedestrian section of Nanjing Road and the Bund (very long walk or decent cab ride). The biggest gem is that a block back from the hotel is a pet market. Would definitely suggest the walk.

Service
The hotel staff is extremely accomodating. I cannot

Rooms
Clean and well organized. New TVs, wired internet, large bathrooms. Bottled water. High quality furnishings and decorations. The suites are definitely much nicer than the normal rooms.

Food
I was there for a conference and ate all breakfasts in the Marriott Cafe and lunches in the ballrooms. The executive chef was trained in Northern Europe and excels in both local fare and Indian cuisine. I did not have an opportunity to try the other two restaurants in the hotel.

Breakfasts is a buffet consisting of local chinese cuisine, fruit, pastries, french toast, omelettes, etc. A very good variety of high quality foods. A little disappointed with the Eggs Benedict as only one day out of ten the egg wasnt hard boiled.

Lunches - I took lunches in the Ballrooms as part of a conference and lunches consisted of local cuisine, Indian, and some European dishes. I was thoroughly impressed with the Indian cuisine and not so much with the European dishes.

Dinner - In the Marriott Cafe dinner is also buffet style with a great spread. A mixture of European, Indian, and Chinese. You can expect whole cooked salmon, prime rib, and a great dessert selection. You can also get unlimited wine and beer for 70 yuan (~11-12 USD).

Value - Expect to pay New York prices for drinks and food in the hotel ($15 for a drink). The mini-bar in your room is also a joke. Internet is also pricey - join Mariott Rewards so you dont have to pay.
