“Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

Great service, great food, great location, great room. Everything about this hotel was terrific and made the trip very enjoyable. Very clean and exquisite accommodations. Location was good from a sightseeing perspective and walking distance from many things. The trains were easy to navigate once you had directions too.

The reviews say it all. It's a great hotel with great service in a great location. Taking a separate elevators to go from you room to your lobby and lobby to the ground floor sounds like it could be annoying, but it wasn't a problem and having a lobby on the 38th floor in itself was kinda cool.

The location, People's Square, is about a 10 min walk to the Bund down East Nanjing Road. If you take the metro, the exits at People's Square are numbered. Look for sign that direct you towards exit 11 since that's the closest to the JW. It's a two minute walk from there. In case exit 11 is closed, exits 9 or 10 are only a few feet further down.

The executive lounge was very nice with an excellent selection of food and drinks. Elites had the option of breakfast in the lounge or the restaurant. Lounge had the same offerings, but the selection in the restaurant was much larger. Go with the restaurant if you're not in a rush, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you for taking time to reflect on your stay at the JW Marriott Shanghai. We are pleased that you and your partner enjoyed dining in both Marriott Cafe and our Executive Lounge. If you return in the future to our property, I hope you will provide me an opportunity to show you our private library (the "highest in the world"!) located on the 60th floor. We very much appreciate your positive feedback and would look forward to welcoming you again.

The JWM is located at the end of Nanjing Rd about a 10 min walk from the Bund. It caters to business travellers. The lobby is on the 38th floor and the elevators are slow, but otherwise it's a great place to stay. The desk staff is excellent and breakfast buffet plentiful and Siem, the FB manager, will make sure your meal is perfect. Step out of the hotel for plenty of shopping, restaurants and nightlife.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Bund.

Thank you for taking time to comment positively on your stay with us. Our kitchen team and restaurant management are truly pleased that you enjoyed a delicious breakfast in our Marriott Cafe. Additionally, we appreciate your tip to stay in a room which faces the Bund -- just imagine that view during springtime! Great to hear your thoughts, and we hope to welcome you back in the near future.

The lounge is a great place to hang out between outings. Fantastic location. When in the lounge ask to see the library. It's another level up and if you're lucky someone (who knows) may open the hidden door to an outside "patio." Top notch hotel.

Room Tip: Executive Lounge level rooms. Hotel Lobby on the 38th floor of the building.

The lobby is on the 38th floor with magnificent views. The hotel has everything to offer, pool, Spa, great service and excellent rooms. Shanghai is a big city with very particular sense of civility, specially when crossing streets, and JW Is a oerfect place to come to relax.

Room Tip: Do the upgrade to get to have the option to have drinks and snacks at the top lounge

Stayed here 6 nights ... Thought valets were outstanding particularly giving directions and making restaurant reservations. Felt they were concerned that I got from point a to point b. Food decent in hotel restaurants. Views were good and fairly easy to get a taxi.

A group of 6 of us stayed here for about 5 nights in two 3-bedroom plus one 2-bedroom units. The room service food was actually pretty good, but way overpriced, even for Shanghai. A pitcher of iced tea was $40 US. The lounge on the 35th floor has excellent food as well. The breakfast, unless its included in the room price, was very expensive, but excellent. A lot of choices and fresh fruits, really can't complain about the view and the food. The English speaking staff was very helpful as they helped us contacting the UPS for a package that we were expecting and setting up a small van for our use during our stay. The beds were comfortable, but do note that the third bedroom in the 3-bedroom units only has a soft bed, a not very comfortable soft bed. The rooms were very large, especially for Shanghai standard. The linen was very nice and the showers were just fine. Finally, the gym was great (it doesn't have all the necessary equipment, but for a hotel, it was fine) and it had a spa that no one uses except for our group. I would definitely recommend this place to non-Chinese speaking guests as it has many English speaking staff members and the standard is on par with the nicer establishments in the US.
