Great location to shopping and around the corner from some of the best local food in shanghai both day and night. The suite rooms are very nice, the bed are great and the restaurants are also very good. There is no local feeling at this hotel at all. If you want to feel like you never left the USA this is a perfect hotel. A better value can be found at the marriott a few blocks away.

Of all the Marriotts we have stayed at, this one stays consistent. It's located across the street from the people's square, with great access to the subway and taxi services. Lots to eat just outside of the hotel if you want to eat some of the local tastes, as well as a Starbucks downstairs. You can walk to the bund, and the night view is incredible as well. Staff speak english well, and are always helpful. Only disappointment - their spa closed a few months ago, and it was a good one.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a quiet room with a view of the bund.

We stayed here for two nights en route back home. The location of the hotel is perfect to explore the peoples square and the Bund. The hotel has easy access to the metro green line which makes travel to and from the airport easy. There are plenty of restaurant choices close by (including great steamed and fried dumpling spots). Staff is friendly and knowledgable (thank you Margret). The lobby is on the 38th floor, so all rooms have a pretty spectacular view. The "fake market" is close by to help you hone your bargaining skills. All in all if we will travel thru Shanghai again we will likely stay here!

We stayed at the JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai at Tomorrow Square for four nights in late May/early June 2014. We flew into Shanghai from the U.S., and this hotel was the perfect place for us to be acclimated to Chinese culture. While the Marriott had many comfortable touches from home, we loved the traditional Chinese meals served in each of their restaurants, and enjoyed speaking (quite broken) Chinese to the pleasant and polite hotel staff.

Rooms: No matter which room you're in, the view will be to die for. While the rooms facing the Bund are a little more picturesque, you really can't go wrong. The beds were unbelievably comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and modern, and we had all of the amenities we needed. If you forgot an outlet converter, there should be one in the drawer in the desk - it took us a few days to figure that out! If you're an early riser, I'd recommend not closing the curtains at night. Waking up to a gorgeous view of downtown Shanghai is a can't miss.

Gym: We used the gym facilities each morning we were there. While most hotel gyms are small and have only a few machines, we were so impressed with the facilities. Weight machines, cardio machines, yoga mats, free weights, water, towels - you name it. Plus, the locker rooms were incredible; fitting rooms, steam rooms, showers, vanities filled with all of the necessities to get ready for the day. I shared a room with two other people, and actually got ready in the spa a few different days. SO nice and relaxing!

Location: The hotel is in a great location (close to the Bund) and is close to the subway. If public transportation isn't your cup of tea, the hotel staff will gladly help you find a taxi (many of which are lined up outside the hotel). Oh, and if you're a coffee lover, there's a Starbucks connected to the hotel. On our first full morning there, I needed a caffeine jolt to set my jet lag straight.

Service: Everyone was nice, friendly and polite. While our Chinese wasn't great, all of the staff we spoke with spoke great English.

Food: We spent time in the Executive Lounge and at the buffet restaurant. All of the food we had was delicious, especially the traditional Chinese dishes. We also loved the complimentary snacks and drinks in the Executive Lounge. How can you not?

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Bund. Great views!

On my trip to China I went to several cities this was by far the best hotel I had stayed at..... The rooms was simple but yet very appealing.... The furnishings were quite nice the views from the room was spectacular... Even being in a foreign country the staff was still so accommodating... The language barrier was not a problem at this property.... The breakfast in the morning downstairs in the hotel restaurant was fabulous... Ideally you cannot ask for more... Centrally located we are able to get around and do all the sightseeing that we wanted without encountering any problems returning to the hotel

You can't beat the location, right next to People's Square and all the excitement of Shanghai nearby. The public spaces are impeccable and the rooms well appointed. Definitely up to western standards. Major pluses: comfy beds, large rooms and very quiet. Great views abound. Helpful and friendly staff. Negatives: nothing much to complain about so I'll offer the "dual elevator" system as the biggest pain (the lobby is on the 38th floor and you have to change elevator banks). Also, the room furniture was a little nicked up.

We first stayed at this hotel sometime 2004. We are Marriott Rewards members and always try to book at Marriott hotels. We have stayed here both as a family and just me with my husband for business. The hotel is great for both. The hotel lobby is at the 38th floor, which serves as a sneak peek at the magnificent views you have in your room. We booked their deluxe rooms and found them consistent with the superb JW Marriott tradition. The rooms and bathrooms are adequate in size, décor nice and everything was clean.I just love their pillows! The hotel staff were friendly. Location was great and central to going around. This hotel is a great choice for both families and business in Shanghai.
