Stayed at the Westin Bund Center Shanghai for a couple of nights while on a recent business trip. The room that I was assigned was fantastic and even had a view of Pudong. I had a great view of the Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower despite my "low" floor. The room was spacious and as with all Westin property, an inviting bed.

The gym set up was a bit unorthodox, with the weights section on a different floor from the rest of the machines. Perhaps the run up and down the stairs is suppose to be a part of your exercise routine. The pool looked great although I did not actually swim in it.

Breakfast on the other hand was somewhat ordinary but hugely adequate for the normal diet. We did not try any of the restaurants at the hotel having arrived late due to a cancelled domestic flight. On the second night, the Concierge recommended a restaurant at the adjoining Bund Center when we asked if there was somewhere we can find Shanghainese food. The Shanghai Uncle in the basement was definitely worth a visit. Just be sure to asked for cold beer if you order a beer as otherwise, you may end up with room temperature beer.

Saw some pictures of Elijah Widjaja of Sinar Mas/APP fame. No wonder we saw so many Indonesians at the hotel and that one can get the Indonesian Nasi Goreng if one so desires.

I stayed at the Westin for about 7 nights in at the beginning of February 2013.
This is the one and only hotel in Shanghai I have stayed in so I cannot make a comparison.
However, the rooms, service, food were excellent (I did not use the restaurant on the upper levels as it appeared to be quite expensive). Some of the business services tended to be a bit expensive especially when I only wanted to print material but the staff were most helpful.
The location was exellent with the nearest Metro station a healthy 15 minutes walk away and the superb Shanghai Museum about 20 minutes walk away. I will be staying again over the comimg week.

We loved the Westin. From its location to the rooms. The breakfast was delicious, the staff was very helpful. It really contributed to an amazing time in Shanghai. Would definitely come back to the Westin.

My first impression of the Westin Bund Centre was of a sports team with a massive salary cap that nevertheless manages to make the quarter finals, nothing more.

I was left standing on the SPG rug for quite some time as a harried crew checked people in and out; there seemed to be minor chaos at the desk. When I was checked in, they upgraded me to a suite in the Tower, which was nice. Gazing out the large window, I was quickly able to jot down some ideas for the next round of marketing collateral, such as, "We ain't on the Bund, but you can see it from here. Kinda."

The bellboys misplaced my luggage. A few phone calls solved that. The air circulation was noisy, turning it off was a clever solution. The wireless was abysmal at times and nothing solved that or the steep room rate. The room was large, everything else comfy, decent natural light from the corner windows, and a bathroom I can only dream about at home.

Now, the lobby is probably the pièce de résistance to many, but believe me, it is awful. Here is the story about how it was conceptualized.

The starchitect breezed out of his office, after liberally powdering his nose (helps maintain clarity and focus, you see), and burst into the boardroom. He looked over the sycophants whose faces turned to him as if flowers to the sun, and began.

"Egypt. Yeah, Egypt on the Nile. But a 1990s shopping mall, that's right, now we have, on an ultramodern cruise ship! I see palm trees and columns and staircases made of glass with neon edge-lighting. Massive scale, high ceilings, low ceilings, arcs and rectilinear wall concepts and wood and marble and carpet. And colours, more colours!" Becky the Intern sketched furiously. "I want someone to find me tan stone, acres of it! I want the floor to look like Cairo was bombed flat and polished to a high sheen. Dammit, it's China. Better hang a few paper lanterns as homage. But not traditional ones - tacky - make them crooked Ikea ones, and put some purple lights in them!" He left as he had arrived and Becky softly cried at the beauty that radiated off her sketch book page.

Without hyperbole, the most visually-jumbled, traffic-interrupted lobby I have woven through in quite some time. Rant over.

Great Westin, great location. Very close to 2 metro stops (we took the metro as much as possible to avoid the horrible traffic). Ask for a high floor room with a view of the Bund.
Some restaurant recs: Lost Heaven and Tin Dai Fang were great (we thought M on the Bund did not have great food, although the view and service were great. Tian Di had horrible service, but okay food and a great view).
Must sees: the Shanghai Museum, the Acrobatics show at Circus World (the 300 RmB seats were fine), the Jewish Shanghai tour with Dvir Gal. We thought going up to the 100th floor of the Bottle Opener building was overrated and overpriced. I would think the slightly lower view from the Hyatt would have been fine if it costs less.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room with a view of the Bund.

This was probably the best hotel we stayed in China.

Room was lovely good size and a great view of downtown Shanghai

Lovely bathroom and products in it

We ate breakfast which was lovely loved the mixed berry juice and the beef pies samosa and sausage rolls also had bottles mineral water at breakfast

Food in the evening was good burger and southern fried chicken buffet looked good but couldn't haves aged it

Bar is lovely and the lighted staircase was fun

Good pool and nice sauna and steam

Location us good close about ten minutes to the bund front lights are on from 7 pm to 10pm we hit there just before they went out on our first night and on the second it was very crowded but a magical sight with all the buildings lit up

The streets are a little dark when walking around and you do get stopped frequently with offers of massage ladyboys and fake Rolex watches but if you stick to the main roads it isn't as bad

As I said probably the best hotel we stayed in in China in 2 weeks and it's not often I say this this but I definitely would go back

Also worth joining the membership scheme as you get a discount about 15% off I think

The Westin is the perfect location. Quiet and yet two blocks from the Bund and about a 10min walk from Yu Garden. Immaculately clean, gracious rooms and wonderful staff. The beds were the most comfortable of my entire stay in China.

Do not miss out on the Shanghai Woo silk store located in the lobby-- the best silk and most creative designs I have ever seen. I am thrilled we checked it out prior to our departure. Really a wonderful hotel!!
