The foyer says it all- big hotel, lots of class, new new new, construction everywhere, at least when I was there.

I was first placed in a HUGE room overlooking the construction of highway and in China, that means work all night and all day as things go up overnight there.

I was moved to a smaller room with a view to the River which was much more cosy and quiet. I had problems with the internet and my computer got a virus but apart from that the stay was lovely. I found a great cafe beside the main breakfast venue in the foyer that did great coffee and sat out in the sunshine for breakfast. The adjoining Chinese restaurant in the same complex was pretty amazing too but M on the Bund, a short walk away was great with wonderful view over the Bund. Had a great time and a good trip but if you are there to shop, the Bund is not the place to stay.

It is in walking distance to the tunnel across to the Shanghai Pearl lookout however on the other side of the river.

We stayed in the Peninsula in Beijing and were told that the Westin was the better choice in Shanghai. Not at all -- the Peninsula wins hands down. Unfortunately, systemically expensive, poorly designed, and impersonal are the words that come to mind when describing this hotel. Our stay started out with my wife drinking from a large bottle of water, that had in tiny print that it cost $78 Yuan (about 10$). A bit sneaky. The hotel is located in the middle of a busy intersection. It is just a little too far from the walking district and subway to be pleasant in the 90 degree 100% humidity of Shanghai in Sept. The design of the rooms needs more work -- the lighting is difficult to control -- either on or off. Furthermore, your room card is needed to turn on the lights. For the price of this room -- it seems to me that they could throw in 1$ worth of electricty. We found that we could easily buy new t-shirts on the street for less than the Westin charges to clean t-shirts. The bathroom is shiny but odd -- a large short bathtub that resembles a Jacuzzi without the water jets, and poorly designed controls for the shower that could easily result in burns. Judging how the room was supplied, the Westin must be suffering from a towel shortage compared to the Peninsula. Service varied between none and lackadasical. The room safe was just crude -- bad design. Even the coffee was hard to use -- the strategy seemed to be to make it so difficult to prepare coffee -- that perhaps guests will give up and buy something else on the street. There is a LOT of food in AM on street just about a block away (go out the front door, cross street, go a block and then turn right), and strongly recommend going there for breakfast. After reading similar reviews about the hotel restaurant concerning poor cost/benefit ratio, we decided to go elsewhere. We think traveler to Shanghai should do the same with this hotel.

As a business traveler, been coming to shanghai for so many time in any years, finally i found the hotel that is just the best, i can tell you that The Westin Bund Center is amazing hotel, with helpful staffs. Room and bathroom are luxury and large and yes the bed are very comfortable, breakfast are the best i ever had in all of china. But yes food in the hotel are very expensive. The location is great just 10 minutes walk to the Bund and Nanjing road where you can do all the shopping. There are Family Mart and Starbuck right next to the hotel, its an office tower, there is also a connecting door from the right side of the 1st floor restaurant to the tower.

I stayed here for a week with a work connference. The hotel is very nice and has some great points but if you are paying US$250-300 per night for a room I believe you should be able to get better value elsewhere.

The room is big and spacious with a comfortable king sized bed. There was a lounge area and an office space. The bathroom had a really nice shower and separate bath. The sink area was quite small though and there wasn't a lot of space for toiletries. I was given a special 'gym' room which also contained a cycling bike and various pieces of exercise equipment. I didn't really want this in my room but I think this could be a benefit to those who would like this.

The lobby and restaurant area on the ground floor is quite large and open but it is also very loud. It isn't really a place to relax. At the Sunday brunch, they had some opera singers and a full orchestra playing. This may have been great if you are looking for this in a hotel lobby/restaurant, but isn't ideal when you can't hear the person in conversation sitting two feet from you at your table!

The hotel does have a business centre for internet use although the prices are extortionate (as is the case unfortunately in most 5-star hotels). There was free WIFI in the rooms but the connection was so slow it was impossible to actually make use of it.

The breakfast buffet was great and had a wide range of food available. Likewise the lunch and dinner menus were very nice and the hotel had a nice bakery too. The service by the staff at the bar and restaurant wasn't great though. On pretty much every occasion we ordered something, the staff would bring the drinks/food at different times - to the extent that someone may have finished their drink/meal by the time they brought someone else's order to the table.

Overall, this is a very nice hotel and you can have a very nice stay here. However, I believe there are better hotels out there for the price range and would look elsehwere next time I stayed in Shanghai.

Stayed in two connected rooms for the expo. I thought that the public areas and rooms ere a step up from the nearby Le Royal Meridien. Not really on the Bund but a short 5-10 minute walk away. Everything was pretty nice. The front desk was rather cold and inefficient. For example, although having booked connected rooms and even calling in advance, they acted as though it was a surprise and an impossibility until we rose a stink. That would have been ok until we had a single cup of average coffee at the lobby for which we were charged 81 rmb (almost 12usd).
I expected to be overcharged but that was outrageous. When confirming the cost, the server seemed nearly angry. On the plus side, there is a connected cafe where one can buy pastries, sandwiches and much more reasonable coffee. Based on such unscrupulous efforts to extract money, I cannot recommend this hotel when there are so many other excellent options.

During Shanghai Expo, (which must be the busiest time for this hotel), we were given only the very best service! Not only did they provide a shuttle bus to the Expo site, they also provided tickets and tips on how to get into the VIP lines (this is very important, considering it is 38 degrees and there are 400,000 people ahead of you every day).
Their attention to detail was excellent, as was their room service and (best of all), their more than ample (but not expensive) breakfast buffet (we were there a week, and there was no repetition, so it was almost like a new menu every day).
Their location, not far from the Bund shopping area and office towers is ver good too!
