“Great views, Don't be late for brunch!”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

I lived in Shanghai for 3+ years and worked in JinMao Tower where this hotel is located but never stayed there. Now I live in BeiJing, so stayed for 4 days this week.Got a room on top floor (85) and the views were Great of course. I did not get a Bund view - suspect that is not available to discounted corporate rates - but still great, airplane level views. The room was very good - not sure why some reviewers winge. Not a lot of drawer space if you are an unpacker-type traveler, but I am not. I liked the trapezoidal shaped room (8510). The floor plan on the back of the door showed there are a lot of different shapes and sizes, hence the knock I ave heard "great hotel, small rooms" . I will stay again!
Oh - about that brunch at the Grand Cafe on 54th floor - buffet - food was fine but not exceptional. And when they say it closes at 10:30, the mean they stop re-stocking at 10:15 and at 10:29 they are emptying EVERYTHING. Beware!!!

Room Tip: Go High!!!!!!

As with the other modern hotels I have experienced in Beijing and Shanghai, the Grand Hyatt Shanghai rates very highly. The gym has convenient hours and is well equipped with free weights, cardio, and weight machines. The breakfast spread is excellent, offering both Asian and Western fare. There is also a Starbucks conveniently located in the office tower (2nd floor) that houses the hotel.

Very nice river-view room, very clean and close to the subway. However, we weren't informed that the breakfast was not included in the room charge (no price list at the door, no menu to be seen), so a friend and I were surprised when we received a 480 Yuan bill in the middle of our breakfast, which was not of good value at all for some croissants and stir-fry.

I stayed this year in the Grand Hyatt after many trips to the Shangri La. The main issue is its location, the reception on the 54th Floor and the rooms requiring a lift change. For me it was just time consuming and more difficult that an outside access hotel. My room was upgraded to a Club Room and this was very nice as it had just been renovated. The breakfast for and buffet I found just average and have been spoilt by other hotels in Shanghai. The club lounge was good as were the staff in this lounge and dedicated reception. Views of Shanghai were good. Some service was very good but some was average and could learn from the S.La. Grand Club though was very good service.

Room Tip: A club room will give a better room

I stayed at this hotel in September. Excellent service and helpful concierge. The decor of the room was slightly dark for my taste, but it was quite nicely appointed. The bathroom was quite spacious with a large tub to soak in as well as a separate shower.

I was traveling on business, so I didn't have much time to try the restaurants there except for the casual cafe, which had decent breakfast.

The sky lounge bar has some good views, but due to the way the hotel is built, it doesn't have an airy feel to it.

The cigar bar was very nice with a live band playing blues and had top notch single malt whiskey and cigars on the menu. Not cheap though.

Location is good -- right in the heart of Pudong, the newly developed business district. A 10 minute cab ride away from the French Concession area, where the expats hang out. Be careful of rude cab drivers who try to swindle you for what only amounts to a couple of US dollars just because they think you'll give up trying to get your change back. Also, you can walk across the street to SWFC building, where several good restaurants are located.

Room Tip: Request for a room with a view of the river.

Stayed at this hotel during my first visit to Shanghai. Points of Note are very centrally located in Pudong, extremely efficient staff, eager to help all the time.

The hotel is an architectural wonder and you are amazed with the views both inside and outside. The rooms themselves are a bit constrained, overall OK. They probably need to upgrade their rooms in a couple of years as everything is starting to show its age furniture/fixtures, tv, etc.

The restaurants were excellent for breakfast. However, dinner at the Italian restaurant, if not for the amazing views would be a pass.

One thing of note, i forgot a couple of things in the hotel. Had given up, but was pleasantly surprised to see an email after a couple of days offering to ship it to my preferred address. Sure enough, it arrived a few days later. They won me over with that one. Will definitely stay there if I can on my next trip. You should too...

Room Tip: Choose one with a view of the river.
