“Head in the clouds”
Reviewed 15 March 2013

Possibly my favourite hotel in the world.

Had a jaw dropping corner suite with two whole walls of glass overlooking the city.

Its a bit odd when it is misty, but unbelievable when clear. Not one for guests suffering from vertigo!

City is great fun.

I stayed here over the weekend during a business trip. it is a fantastic hotel. wonderful room, great and courtious staff. excellent Regency Club. This is one of my favorite hotels and would definitely stay here again.

One negative point, and this is not particular to this hotel only. Being a diamond member, I approached the designated counter in the lobby on the 45th floor. When they realized I was a Diamond member, they sent me up to the Club level concierge on the 83rd floor. they checked me in to a room on the 68th floor.
I would want a speadier check-in process instead of sending me up and down the hotel. Why have a designated diemond counter in the lobby if it is not really being used?

The views from our connecting rooms, the restaurants and the lobby are amazing. Rooms are good-sized, bathrooms are large and very nice. I agree with comments from other travelers that the beds are a disappointment - hard and uncomfortable. Hard beds are common in China, but many of the international hotel chains are now providing better mattresses. I would have hoped to find these in the Grand Hyatt. That said, the service was quite good. We interacted with housekeeping on many occasions, requesting an ice pack for our daughter, sending out laundry and requesting shoe shine service. They were helpful and prompt. I will say that requesting any service took some doing - all requests go through the hotel operator or guest services on the phones and it always took quite a while to get through to the operator. I suppose the hotel may have been quite busy, but that constant wait for the phone connection got a bit tiresome.
Overall, it's a nice hotel and our second stay there in the past 6 months.

A very pleasing experience. First time on an 81st floor and simply an amazing opportunity to look DOWN on the closing New Year's Day fireworks! The hotel reception, on the 54th floor is a surprise and getting used to the variety of elevators to navigate the various levels is challenging but staff is on hand to guide you at each transfer point. The "cloud" lounge is a very pleasant location weather cooperating. Everything was well appointed and efficient, the only downside was the slow wireless Internet in my room addressed on pointing it out, but never perfect.

The Grand Hyatt Shanghai is an exceptional hotel located in the famous Jin Mao Tower. You basically look down to see the Oriental TV Tower is how high you are. The rooms are wonderfully put together in rich wood tones and the marble bathroom and tub is great. The service was fantastic as the employees took pride in helping answer my questions.

Overall had a satisfactory stay at the hotel in Pudong. Preference is for Shangri-La Pudong.

Be aware that the lobby is actuall on the 54th floor so don't get disappointed when you are dropped at street level and can't work out where to check-in.

Gym is reasonable, not many machines however.

Bed - the biggest disappointment. Not sure if just my room but my bed was rock hard, like sleeping on concrete.

Room - not very easy to control temperature as the controls don't have an accurate temperature gauge, just low/mid/high.

My husband and I went for the Chinese Year to this property.
The service received was outstanding.
Room was perfect .. The best room views in Shanghai..
The attention to detail was great..
Exceptional customer service from 2 of the best on their management in our opinion
was Tina and David ( front desk mgmt team)..Tina was amazing !!
We stayed last year but this two people made it happen this year and for this reason we will
return and share with our friends and family about our experience.
I will make one suggestion the Grand Cafe needs help with the breakfast buffet that was
not that special and last year the same no improvement in that area.
Club Level staff also needs to be praised for their great customer service experience.
Spa needs a little help also..while having a massage you hear the kids in the pool area..
Not very relaxing and I am a mom so I do understand the children part.. But spa with gym and pool
All together can get to busy and you don't get the spa experience..
We would recommend the property for pleasure or business.

Room Tip: Club level deluxe room 61st floor and up..
