“Spectacular”
Reviewed 6 January 2014 via mobile

When you arrive in your room you probably will not recall having accommodation at greater altitude ever before! This hotel is pretty spectacular at every turn. The room reminded me of an ocean liner and the views - when the air was clear - are amazing. Hard beds again - which are often encountered - but a call to guest services sees this quickly resolved when half a dozen attendants arrive with and install your soft over matteress. Executive lounge is very good too. Pudong location is good for business but be aware that traffic jams in the under river tunnel can make boiling to the Bund a lengthy process.

The year ends with a work trip to Shnaghai. I got to stay at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai at Jinmao Tower in the Pudong district. I'm being specific because there is another Hyatt on the other side of the Huangpu river overlooking the Bund.

Once again, a very good experience typical high Hyatt standards.

Positives
1. Location - if you've got an office in Pudong, this is a great place to stay. It's not too close to the river which ironically makes the hotel more 'central' as the river meanders in a gentle curve around all the adjacent skyscrapers. The Grand Hyatt is also right next to the Shanghai World Financial Centre and opposite the upcoming tallest building in the world, the Shanghai Tower.
2. Hotel lobby - Like the hotel in the KL, this one also boasts of a lobby on Level 54. And the rooms are on higher floors. The moment you're in the lobby, you'll keeping turning around to take in the views. Marvellous.
3. Room and view- Very nice. I got a comfortable queen size bed, 4 pillows. It wasn't too soft. There was a large armchair and footstool to your coat on. A large desk for getting some real work done. I think the chair and desk are almost exactly the same I had in the KL room. There is a nice openness about the room as you enter from the hallway. My room was on level 61 and of course the views were amazing. I could see a huge swathe of the Pudong business district adjacent to the river.
4. Bathroom and closet - Huge! You could live in here. Almost all the surfaces are covered in grey-white marble. Very clean. I liked the fact that the shower was semi-open, not so claustrophobic. There's a shelf and mirror in the shower stall. You can watch the TV from the shower if you don't close the doors. The closet is large enough to accommodate a big suitcase fully open.
5. Service - everyone is very polite, from the valets on ground level to the greeters outside each lift lobby, to the bell hops. A smile, a nod and a greeting every time a hotel guest appears. On arrival, they try to take away the burden of lugging your luggage almost immediately. Nice, pleasant small talk at check in. Very good command of English. When my suitcase arrived, the bellhop noticed I was barefoot and pointed out the slippers for me to wear so that my feet wouldn't get cold.
6. Breakfast is ok but it wouldn't make you go wow. A good selection of breads, pastries, fruit, Western and Chinese selections. Milk was served warm for the coffee - a thoughtful touch.

Negatives
1. Shower - the shower "tower" has three nozzles and their position and usage sort of boggles me. What was a little annoying were the knobs - round cylinders with small thin tips jutting out at each quarter turn. It hurt my hands to turn these knobs because of the tiny tips, especially when it's cold.
2. There was a smell from the toilet once in the middle of the night. It came and went.

Tip! It's sometimes hard to get a taxi from the hotel entrance at peak hour. Take a short walk to the office entrance of Jinmao Tower (out of the hotel entrance, turn left and another left around the corner). One rainy evening, we skipped a very long queue and got a cab immediately when we did just that.

Just returned from a 16 day stay at the GH Shanghai. World class. No complaints. Bed, pillows, room were excellent. Some other reviews made the hotel sound dated. I didn't see it. I saw a world class modern hotel with classic touches in styling. Customer service is excellent. Would stay here again/ would not stay at any other hotel in Shanghai because I am so happy with the GH. It's always a gamble when you travel even if the hotels are highly rated. The staff at the GH are 100% customer focused and I could not make a complaint about anything after spending 16 days here. I can't say that about any other hotel that I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: River views are nice

Wonderful location in town, in an architecturally beautiful skyscraper. Rooms are quiet and secluded (with black out curtains activated). Beds are comfortable and climate control is straightforward. Restaurants of several genre are within the hotel and are consistent in high quality

This hotel provided excellent service, dining and a great location. We were on the 87th floor with great views of the river. Breakfast was outstanding with a number of food stations offering what ever you wanted. We enjoyed the bars and the shopping mall attached to the building. We experienced good weather and clear skies which is getting to be rare unfortunately. Only downside were the poor reading lights and general lighting in the room.

Due to the overwhelming feedbacks of Cloud 9, I went there first but didn't like the music. So I went to Piano Bar at 53 floor for a few drinks, It was much more quiet, less crowd and very relaxing. If you are with business partners and wanted to find a place where you can chat and relax, I recommend Piano Bar. If you're with friends and wanted something more happening, please proceed to the top bar.

Grand Hyatt at the prestigious Jin Mao Tower is a majestic hotel.

Starting at the 54th FLR, you witness opulence and grand views of Shanghai.

Check in was easy and fast. Great staff help. Very courteous and helpful. Stayed on the 85th floor with a room with a view of the bund and river. Very spacious rooms. Could use a bit of updating.

Grand club was ok. Not the best. Needs upgrading badly. Food was tasty and staff was extremely helpful.
