I was here for business when I visited Shanghai. The hotel is former YMCA accommodation. The rooms are huge and nicely designed. Hotel reception are very helpful and thankfully they speak very good english.

Breakfast selection is just nice, mostly Chinese food and few Western food.

This hotel is beside the Dashijie Metro station and there are shopping centres nearby. Huaihai Road is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel. This is their premier shopping destination for branded goods (ie Clothes, bags, shoes, jewelries, etc).

Peoples Park and Nanjing road are 15 minutes walk from the hotel. This is another shopping area for the locals and tourists alike.

Before you come to Shanghai, be sure you have changed to Chinese Yuan (RMB) as the exchange rate in the local banks are very low. There are no money changers here hence the only place to change money is through banks. Banks require you to fill up a two page form and present your passport at the counter. Be ready to spend around 20 to 40 minutes (on a good day) to change your money. If you happen to be in a bank with many customers then be ready to spend at least 1 hour waiting at the queue.

Expect people to be smoking inside the hotel (restaurant, lobby, reception) as this is something normal to local people. It is a jarring experience for me to be sharing a non-smoking space like the hotel lobby with smokers who can smoke two cigarettes in one sitting.

Room Tip: They have non-smoker floors which is a real non-smokers floor (unlike Novotel Atlantis Shanghai hotel where all floors are smokers floor).

Their breakfast was fantastic. Wifi was free and easily accessed through your own device or the tv which also featured as a computer. But the privacy was terrible. The bathroom door has patches where you can see in and the whole bathroom wall facing the rest of the room is glass. There is a blind inside although closing it is a real difficulty. It was in a good location though, ten minutes walk from Nanjing road and 5 minutes from the Shanghai national museum.

excellent location at fair price;
The interiors have been quite recently refurbisched, clean
Considering the outstanding location, it's fantastic value for money

Excellent location. Is right beside the MRT station (Line 8). Walking distance to nanjing rd where you can shop till you drop. Clean room and good quality bed. The room come with free wifi and video on demand.

Room Tip: Most room is of the same quality and view.

Liked everything about this hotel except the way the TV is tied together with some sort of wireless computer console. Made the whole system very hard to use. My set up was buggy and I kept getting error messages telling me to go into CMOS and make changes, then reboot. The maids were as perplexed and mystified as I was. Not a big deal of course.

I had a junior suite. Very posh and quiet. They asked me at check in whether I preferred a room with a view or a quiet room in back with no view. I chose the latter. I was also on a non-smoking floor, which was nice.

Convenient location. One day I went to the Shanghai Museum which was about ten minutes walk away. Plenty of small convenience stores, bakeries and coffee shops nearby. A slightly longer walk will get you to a good selection of other restaurants.

One evening I walked to a lively neighborhood "crawfish street" where boiled crawfish were for sale by the kilo just like you might find in Louisiana or Houston. Probably twenty or so small eateries, all in one block, and all of them featuring boiled crawfish plus an assortment of shellfish, such as scallops, clams and oysters roasted over charcoal. They had vegetables on skewers.

Ask at the hotel desk for directions. I forgot the name of the street or I would post it here. Sorry. Tell them you are looking for Long Xia 龙虾。In other parts of China, that's the name for lobster; but here it seems to mean crawfish.

Breakfast was quite satisfactory. Check in and check out were smooth. The lobby is on the second floor. The front desk staff spoke good English.

Be sure to have the name and address written out in Chinese, since taxi drivers don't know this hotel by its current name.

I would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to a friend.

Room Tip: Recommend a quiet room facing the back. Rooms having a view of the park get noisy in the evening because a large bank building on the corner has a huge plasma screen TV showing the evening news and loudspeakers blast out the sound. It's only intermittent, but I think it might be annoying.
