“Worst service ever”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

The location is great thats why i gave a rating of 2 .

However the service really disgusted me .

I stayed four nights in this hotel , and on the first day i arrived i asked the receptionist for advise on where could i make more business cards as i had to attend an exhibition so they told me to turn left and walk for like five minutes ,

So off i went and couldn't find the place and in china you just can't ask people on the road because of communication problem so i decided to go back to the hotel to ask if one of the hotel staff could accompany me since its only like five mins away .

he was rude about it and told me that he was not suppose to leave work . well, even if it was the case , he could have said it nicely and offered for a solution

On my last day when i was checking out at 7 a.m and had a flight to catch , i had to do a printing of my tickets so i asked them kindly if they could direct me to where i can print .

Again they were rude and said " our business center opens at 8 a.m ,sorry can't do anything"

so i explained that i have to take a flight and its very important ,its like i had to beg them .

so finally one of the staff after hesitation guided me to the computer where i could print which was 5 steps away from the reception .

so he led me to the computer where i could finally print my tickets but the setting language of the computer was Mandarin .

so i went out to ask one of the staff at the reception to come help me and again rudely they were like "No you have to wait till 8 a.m "

This time i flipped and i scolded them as they were just standing by the reception and not even doing any work .

so finally a lady staff comes and tell me 5 rmb for one page of printing , as i was in a hurry to head off to the airport i didn't want to say anything else .

I got my print and paid her 10 rmb for my two page of printing and rushed to the airport.

the staff working on the door was nice though as he actually did some work and arranged a taxi for me .

I hope that this reaches to the hotel owner as the workers don't seem motivated .

p.s i forgot to mention , the room i had got was facing the main road , so at night when i was sleeping , all i could hear were cars and trucks horning

we visited shanghai for an onsite inspection and were invited by the host company at shanghai.
The expectation from a 4 star hotel was down the drain, the minute we walked in. the staff on the counter was in no urgency to attend us. there was no bell boy to attend to luggage although it was around 9.30 pm. it is expected that the reception personnel is multi lingual, especially English speaking. the person who attended did know very very basic English and we had a tough time.
the booking was from the host company and the representative travelling with us was to make the payments. although the entire amount for 3 nights was paid, the reception person asked for a additional deposit of 1000 yuan. as we were not carrying so much of cash, we assured to pay first thing in the morning and the payment for 3 nights was already done.
to our surprise, as soon as we checked in to our room and before we could even freshen up we had the room service attendant remove everything from the mini bar as we did not pay the deposit. this was outright ridiculous!!!
the room provided was dirty and ac not working. after a tough time explaining to the reception as he did not understand English, I was given another room which was atleast clean.
one of my colleague got a room where the neighbouring room occupants were drunk and creating so much of nuisance. the attendant refused to change the room or speak to the occupant in the neighbouring room.
break fast was ok but it was a hell of a task to ask for salt, pepper as no one on the floor understood English. in an international city like shanghai, especially hotels, this was a big disappointment. although the language barrier is all over china, this is one area where things can be better.
the only good thing about the hotel was its location, close to Nanjing street and metro as well as hop in hop off bus station.
we did not get any tourist guidance from the staff and in general found the staff very rude.
will never recommend this hotel to any one as there are better options nearby.

Room Tip: look at better options available in the same location. if at all you decide to stay in this hotel as...

The location is excellent. The lobby is exquisite. However, the rooms are getting a little worn. You can walk right out the back of the hotel onto the walking area of Nanjing Road. The Bund is about an10 to 15 minute pleasant stroll. Have stayed here before and its nice enough.

Room Tip: I don't think you can go wrong in any location of the hotel

The rooms weren't look like they way as lobby and all. We just left on Sun 3 days ago.. we booked 2 rooms, left my brand-new cardigan in the closet.. the thing is that my 10yrs old adopted baby from China.. took her and sister for spring break..she picked this cardigan.. and when got in to our flight.. remembered that left it in the closet of our hotel room.. hanged in there didn't want to get wrinkle with the rest of our things in the luggage. our tour agent contact the hotel and they said there was nothing.. the thing is.. if it was left in the lobby or any public area its a different case.. but was left in our assigned room, and told the hotel it was there, and if they should mail it to our postal address given and charged on our account they have records of our info and credit card.. do the right thing and return to us (guests).. easily find out who the maid was assigned to clean up the room right after when we left.. the room was 1620.. and we checked out before 9:30AM Sun April 13. It happened before in US.. and they mail the items and cause it was left in the room and they returned it.. Do the right thing and return to the guest.. the maid must be lying.. so get to the bottom of this.. really has values for this item cause my adopted girl from China picked this item for her mommy. If it was left in any public place like lobby as mention above or in the bathroom its a different matter.. but this is through a guest and the hotel alone.. with their service and honesty.. do the right thing.. we booked too rooms 1619 &1620.. but this happened the item was left in room 1620.. we booked for two days.. and left on Sun 13 April three days ago.

This could be a nicer hotel if the management paid attention to details and have better maintenance along with attentive staff.
The breakfast buffet was good. The location is central right on Nanjing Road.

Room Tip: Most rooms require work. The property is getting old and is in dire need of remodeling.

Excellent service. Fast check-in and we even got a free upgrade with access to a member lounge where we could eat complimentary delicatessens such as sushi and macaroons!

The room was great, although its a bit aging but it fits to the theme "majesty"
