“Medival feeling in the middle of Shanghai”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

The hotel has an old European feeling. A lot of wood inside the lobby and hallways, wooden staircase. Ceilings are quite low, rooms are not big but they are cozy with again a lot of wooden surfaces. Electrical outlets are far away from bed and in my room the European plug tended to fall out constantly. Bathroom is clean, toilet has the spray-cleaning mechanism. In the room you get complimentary snack, water and tea.

Staff is friendly. Receptionists and concierges speak English and are very helpful with the search of nearby attractions.

Breakfast is nothing special, medium selection, but otherwise tasty. Some of the foods are baked fresh in front of you.

Overall I enjoyed my stay and would most probably return again.

I did not stay in the hotel but wandered into the restaurant and had a dinner. Exterior and interior are very interesting, beautiful in the German-Scandinavian fantasy style - unique for Shanghai. However, the dining experience was very poor, incredibly disappointing service especially for the price that is expensive even for Shanghai. I ordered three dishes, a beer and a soda. A beer bottle and a soda can arrived but no glasses. I asked for glasses - got one only, asked again the second glass came. The hot dish - lamb with coriander arrived first. It was not bad although meat was tough. Then nothing. I asked the waitress about the food twice. Finally, an appetizer came - small but good assembly of cold cuts, pickled veggies and shrimp. Then, again nothing. I asked again and the final dish - sea cucumber with shredded pumpkin arrived. Like all dishes presentation of the dish was impeccable but taste was not. The sea cucumber was overcooked and pumpkin very greasy.
During all this time all three waitresses were hiding in another room paying absolutely no attention - dishes not taken away, no interest in the diner. Finally, I asked for the bill. I arrived 15 min later as a piece of paper torn out from a printer.
I have been to China many times (over 10 years) and I am aware of differences in service but this was a uniquely BAD experience

Spent my weekend over Moller for our valentine celebration. Indeed, when you step into the lobby of the hotel, It brings you back to the era of Moller. The building, furnitures, paintings and every single things in hotel are well preserved. Thanks for the great hospitality and kind staff, which make our stay over Moller memorable..

A must stay hotel when you visit to shanghai..easy access to the popular streets, shopping malls and tourists spots.

This villa in Shanghai IS like a fairytale. Very nice room and extremely pleasant surroundings, with the most beautifull garden in the middle of the big city. I had a very pleasant two night stay and will not hesitate to recommed others to try this. Also try the restaurant in the back of the garden, which was top class.
The reasons that I am not rating it 5 stars are:
It is not in the absolute city center and there is a 10-15 minutes walk to the Metro.
I had trouble communicating with the staff as very few spoke English.
Despite a big ad for the fairytale bar in the driveway, the bar had been closed for several years.

Loved this hotel, stayed here for a night in March, 2014. The vintage style reminds me of hotels in Europe, beautiful staircases, lobby and garden. Rooms are spacious and huge bathrooms. Walkable distance to the new shopping mall iapm. Will recommend this hotel to my friends who wants to experience something unique when visiting Shanghai.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the Executive Club category, you'll get to stay in the main building.

1. I arrived and my room had a toilet that did not work. I was moved to a smaller room. I found this unacceptable. I am not used to a downgrade. I was told there was no other rooms.

2. I was then informed that the toilet in my initial room was fixed and so I moved back in there. It did indeed work. This was during the first 45mins of arriving.

3. I returned to the hotel at 9.30pm and found that the toilet was not working again.

4. I was moved to another room at 10pm (even though I was earlier told there was NO ROOMS left).

5. In the morning I tried to shower. The shower had cold water and the main shower head had NO WATER. I AM NOT KIDDING. So tried to use the hose in the bath tub. While using this the handle fell off the hose. AGAIN I AM NOT KIDDING. This was a room at a cost of 280 pound per night...and the shower did not work.

6. At breakfast this place didn't even have enough tables for the customers. A bit embarrassing really. Have you ever seen Faulty Towers?????

Room Tip: don't choose any room. don't be fooled by the beautiful building.

In Shanghai for business frequently and decided to stay on for the weekend and opted for a different experience than the business hotels. Big Mistake! I left the high comfort, fantastic location, and superior service of Le Meridien for this dump. The service was poor due to both unwillingness and lack of English of staff. The breakfast buffet was unimpressive and made even more unplesant by the musty odor of the dining area.
October was very warm in shanghai this year, however the hotel had opted to already disable the AC in all the rooms, making it incredibly hot and uncomfortable at night. When i asked if the AC could be turned on I was told flatly No, and got the un-helpful solution of being advised to open the window. Faced with no other option, did this for the night and was eaten alive by mosquitos!
Hotel is grossly overpriced for what it is and the service you receive. There are many better options in this price class in Shanghai.
