“A Convenient place of stay at Shanghai”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

This is a Hotel which is best liked for its location and cleanliness. Its a 3 star but the facilities are more than adequate for a pleasant stay . Front Desk persons speak reasonably good English, but for other services it is advisable to know Dumb Charade . But this is true for almost all Hotels in Shanghai. Rooms are spacious , toilets adequately stuffed . But do not expect moisturizers. You have a breathtaking view of the xiujahui Malls from each room there. Now it's Spring Festival eve , so the lights are something special . Even at other times too the surrounding areas are brilliantly lit up. You are 10 Minutes walking away from the nearest metro, sorry, subway station ( Hengshan Road , Line 1) and equal distance away from the 9 Mall conglomerate , viz. xiujahui . Hengshan road with its array of Europe style clubs is a pleasant road to be nearby . Bank of China is a 5 Minute walk where you get the best rate for your Dollars, Euros including TC-s .Please do not use the automated Dollar dispenser near reception unless you are in a real hurry , which gives a pretty bad deal. the Hotel Food its not bad , though limited in repertoire . You have got plenty of options in Xiujahui including KFC, Pizza Hut , Coco Curry . You have an Indian Restaurant too 20 Min walk away , Indian Kitchen . Buffet Breakfast at Hotel is OK , but you get the same stuff over and over again.

Room Tip: Stay in whatever floor you like starting from 10th upwards till 27th , but opt for rooms ending wi...

35 of us from Cincinnati were on a tour and stayed here while in Shanghai. I really liked the neighborhood in the French Concession area. You can walk to the nearby park and observe folks doing their daily Tai Chi exercises, etc. There are shops and restaurants all nearby. Our room # 1511 was modern and clean with a Queen bed. This was one hotel where the mattress was not so extremely hard. This hotel was the best one we stayed at during our tour of China. Breakfast buffet served on the 2nd floor above the lobby was varied and delicious. If you stay here on a Sunday morning be sure to get out early (6:00 am) to witness the open air market where everything from eels to live ducks are sold to be dinner soon. There is also a Christian church we attended nearby on Sunday morning. Taxi cabs are very cheap in Shanghai (approx. $5.00 to get anywhere) so you can easily get around for touring on your own.

3rd stop, nicest on 3 city tour - our guide called it "Swanky." 4 star rooms. 2 twins or queen. Rooms overlooked park or Chinese garden & amazing neon lights (8-10). Clean. 2 bottles of free water daily (don't even brush teeth with tap water in China). 3 free business floor computers (9-9). Evening hotel floor hostess at elevator. Good American or Chinese breakfast. Fair exchange rate at front desk.

I stayed in this Hotel for 8 days in January 2011, and I last stayed here in 2005. I booked a De Luxe Suite room through Expedia for about Au$90 per day inclusive of tax. The suite ( 1503) which was extremely comfortable, comprised two separate rooms with own flatscreen TVs, lounge chairs and work desk. The suite was meticulously clean and had great 180 degree views around Shanghai. Breakfast was an extra but the standard buffet breakfast was only $6 per person. Service and security frrom hotel staff was excellent. The Hotel is conveniently located in the upmarket Hengshan Road area, and there is an excellent supermarket in the next street to the right. Overall top class value for Shanghai which is becoming an increasingly expensive city to visit.

This hotel has very spacious rooms for being located in the city. The rooms and bathrooms were very new and nice. The beds are nice and there is a flat screen. The views were quite impressive out the window as well (though they are not of the famous part of the skyline). The hotel is near two of Shanghai’s universities. It is also very close to some of the largest and most expensive malls in Shanghai. It is also a short walk from the Hengshan Road Station on the Metro Line 1. This makes it easy to get to any part of the city. Near the Hengshan Road Station there is also a fair bit of nightlife and food.

The hotel breakfast is okay. The food is just average but the service is quite good. The service at the hotel overall is very good. The hotel has a karaoke bar which you could faintly hear from our room on floor 14. I believe the bar was on floor 12 or something. The noise from the karaoke bar was a negative point for an otherwise nice hotel. It was not loud enough to prevent me from falling asleep however. The hotel has fast free internet and also features a business center. Across the street from the hotel is an okay cheap massage parlor along with some cheap hair salons. Overall, this hotel is a steal for its low price around $ 70 USD per night.

Just returned from a week at this hotel. You wouldn't know it, but it's just a couple blocks from the residences of a couple former Premiere of China residence (one still lives there, the others are dead). So security in the area is great!

The rooms in the remodeled floors are very nice. Rooms on the "back" of the building and the edges are small. rooms on the ends are suites (small BR with a living room), and the rooms in the middle are very deep.

They never had enough money on hand for us to even break a 100RMB note, much less change US$ into RMB. But everything else was very nice.

Bonus that they're close to the subway.

  • Liked — The room was very deep and the views were great.
  • Disliked — They had a currency exchange, but never had any money.

For the price, I think this was a great hotel. We paid about US$60 per night, including breakfast. The rooms were clean and comfortable, service was quick and courteous, and the food was good (waiters friendly too). Overall I would recommend this as a good hotel in the affordable range... although it's location is nothing to crow about.
