Several time has passed since being built this hotel.
Not modern, but it has a magnificent atmosphere.
It is very convenient to the shopping mall nearby.

At breakfast, I drunk Hong Kong-style soup.
It is one of the top level of the soup I drank in China.
In order to drink it , I want to stay again.

Stayed 1 night in Purple mountain. Convenient place to stay as there is a mall right across the hotel with lots of restaurants. Room wise, a little small and lighting is a little too dim. toilet looks old and small. There is no separate shower area from the bath tub.

Stayed in the 41st floor at Purple Mountain 17th - 23rd April. This was my second visit, first time round (2010) was very very good, they have improved since them to excellent. All down to the staff; there are more people that speak English well, and the service quality from the room, to the water to the food... has all just upped its game a little. John Lui and his conceirge staff are simply wonderful. Make sure your stay includes access to the Premium club lounge on the 26th floor, costs more but worth every penny, as they serve breakfast snacks during the day, happy hour drinks.... very very good! Thanks for a great visit to Shanghai.

We stayed here for 9 days in Feb. on the 41 Floor.
The room wa bright, modern and stylish.
The "Open" bathroom had one wall with a curtain, that could be pulled back when needed.
Our room faced Century Plaza, and even had a window that opened, strange but nice to let in some "fresh" air.
The breakfast was served in the main dinning room or on the executive club floor, higher up.
The executive floor is quieter for breakfast and has a better view, we still went to the main dinning room most of the time, because to the wider selection for breakfast.
The rooms have free internet with a cable, and our room was to have free Wifi, but we only seemed to get that every so offen.
The hotel staff was friendly and helped out every wish, even with free umbrellas on the rainy days.
A nice hotel well situated downtown, and on a subway line.

Room is just "ok" and a bit dark, view from the upper floors is really nice though. I really liked the location as there is a little mall next to it, so if you want to take a break from Chinese restaurants, you will value this.

For those who enjoy working out, the gym is just perfect. It's very complete allowing you to do a full work out.

I paid U$125 so the price-product relationship was excellent.

There are many reviews here talking up the buffet breakfast. True that there is great variety but it seems that they are unaware of one of the most important things for a hot buffet, heat!
All of the hot food was either stone cold or just luke warm except for the omelette bar where they cook the eggs fresh to order. Even if you wait until they put out fresh lots of food, it's already cold when they bring it out. After spending the first day feeling queasy after breakfast and being unable to eat anything else for the rest of the day, I was cautious for the rest of my stay and just ate freshly cooked eggs and toast and pastries. The room itself was quite good and I enjoyed the very firm mattress. Unfortunately the windows were grubby but thats probably due to how fast the pollution dirties them up after a clean. I stayed 5 days all up and would stay there again.
One thing to beware of is the ATM on the ground floor. When you make a transaction it gives you your card back after you have your cash and receipt. Because i'm used to getting the card back before the money, i forgot to remove the card and of course it did not get handed in and i had to cancel my credit card. Luckily i had enough cash to fix up the hotel extras and get to the airport as it was my last day there when i realised the card was gone.
