The day we went to the Yu Gardens, particularly the zig zag bridge was overcrowded and we simply decided to move in this old building. It is touristic, yes, but I cannot say that it was a tourist trap. You can just enter and wander around to feel the old time atmosphere or you can even have a pot of dragonwell which tasted really good. Again, it is designed and priced for foreigners obviously but they do not insist to sell you something and if you just want to sit and have some tea like once upon a time then go ahead. They also prepare the tea in front of you so that you may have some idea about the ceremony part of the whole tea drinking experience.
