New Harbour Service Apartments
Reviewed 4 October 2013

We stayed here on arrival in Shanghai for five nights before traveling to other cities, and again 3 weeks later for two nights before flying home. The first time the apartment we were given had four separate rooms: bedroom, lounge/dining room, bathroom, and kitchen. The kitchen had excellent facilities. The second time our apartment was smaller (only 3 rooms: bedroom, lounge room and bathroom) and no cooking facilities.
As in all the Chinese hotels we stayed in, the beds were very hard.
The hotel is in a good position for most tourist sites and activities. About a twenty minute walk to the Bund. A short walk to People's square and Nanjing Street.
Close to a variety of cafes and two small supermarkets virtually next door.
It is much cheaper to take a taxi from the airport rather than book a car online to pick you up from the airport.

Mainly stayed in a two bed suite on the 20th floor looking out to the Huang Pu. I have stayed at this property many times over the years. It's definitely going downhill....This time I had to call back housekeeping to re-clean before moving into the room and even after this there was still a thick layer of dust on all of the skirting boards. I also stayed in two other rooms in this hotel during my stay in China- all three had weak showers and baths that did not drain correctly or flooded the floor when they did! There was badly peeling wallpaper in several of the rooms and the window seals have hardened and shrunk so they are no longer effective. Another annoyance was that the individual floor corridor aircon units were not turned on at any time, even though it was 32C outside. Definitely not a four star experience.

Yes New Harbour is a little off the beaten track, but it is quiet and has cooking facilities in the rooms and a great breakfast on the second floor. It is only a short walk into the city, and the French quarter is a short cheap taxi ride. It has a few nice small grocery shops close buy. Spotlessly clean in the rooms, we have used this to visit trade shows in the past and find the hotel to be top notch! The staff speak good English.

A spacious room with seperate living area and kitchen was much better for me than staying a small hotel room. Yes, it was a bit hard to find the apartment at first. But once I got used to the place, then I could enjoy walking all the streets and visiting local restaurants and bakeries as if I really live in Shanghai not as just a traveller. For me it was a great experience to stay at this residence for days in Shanghai

Booked a 2 bedroom for a 3 night stay. Rooms are basic, with a queen bed (size is more like a super single) in one room and 2 twin beds in the other. Only one bathroom to share and the kitchen utensils are pathetic. Just 2 sets of spons, bowls and plates. And a electric water pot that is rusty. But with the price paid, can't complain much. Room smelt of smoke although it says "non-smoking".
Location is out of touristy area, which means it could be quite dirty. e.g. we always have to look at the floor when we're walking, in case we stepped onto dog poo. And there are quite a few destitutes sleeping by the roadside at night. Also, some taxi drivers don't know how to get to this hotel, so always bring along the hotel card with address.

We stayed for 4 nights at New Harbour Serviced Apartments, having read quite good reviews on Tripadvisor. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
The check-in was easy, reception staff spoke good English and the taxi driver had no trouble finding the address. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Dashijie subway station, which is very convenient. In a great location close to People's Park, and about a 2km walk to the Bund.
Our suite was on the 10th floor; though minimally furnished, the room was very clean and very spacious, which we really enjoyed. It was also quiet.
The kitchenette didn't have any utensils or cooking equipment, but we really only needed the fridge for milk, kettle/mugs for coffee, and plates/knife to cut up fruit, so it was perfectly fine for us. (We had to phone reception to get a knife brought to our room, but this was no problem).
The TV was very good as it had a HBO movies channel, instead of just BBC news (like most hotels in China!)
The room also had wifi which was mostly fine. Good AC in the living room and bedroom.
Daily cleaning was very good, even the floors mopped every day.
We were able to wash clothes in the hotel laundry for 25RMB per washing load, which was useful. A further 25RMB for tumble drier.
Did not try the restaurant; reasonable hotel gym facilities.
We really enjoyed our stay at New Harbour and would stay there again.
