Our travel agent recommended the Manhattan Bund hotel during our recent trip to Shanghai last week. It was a TERRIBLE experience for us. The reception personnel (a male) was extremely rude, not being able to converse in English, he instead chose to shout at me in Chinese. I don't understand the language, but I surely comprehend the harsh tone of his voice. After getting our room key, the situation didn't get any better. The alley to our room was in PITCH darkness as the light wasn't working. Once inside the room (4th floor), we find the room extremely small, uncomfortable and NOT WORTH the 508 yuan/night that it cost. Only 2 pillows were found on the hard mattress and what I thought was a wardrobe turned out to be the TOILET.....yes it was the size of a built-in wardrobe with sliding door. To add to the frustrations, there are no minibar. It was truly a bad experience that we decided to check-out and get another hotel. As if that wasn't enough, we were told our travel agent haven't paid them and so we had to pay up. Our travel agent later told us they have made the payment.....meaning we have been had !!!! Never again will we return to Manhattan Bund.

A rock's throw away from the Bund and a block away from Nanjing Lu. Breakfast included which is actually eatable (for chinese standard). Great friendly service, clean room, free bike rental, bar, and I could go on... If there's a hotel that gives you bang for your buck, it's this one.

Hotel in wannabe art deco style. The hotel has small rooms, !repetitive mention to get room with window! windowless rooms are even more claustrophobical. Really good location just meters from Bund promenade. Needs renovation but still the bath was clean. Wireless internet in room.

I stayed here in August 2012, they upgraded me to suit room which was great however toilet was too small and there was no tea coffee maker. Location is superb, you walk 100 steps and you are at famous Bund which rocks in the night, all the famous colonial buildings are just stone's throw distance. all rooms are same. front office is not helpful. single travelers will be attempted by pimps every two minutes (literally) , restaurant and bar are alright.

Room Tip: Language is an issue, all rooms are fine but insist on suit as rates are by and large same,be aware of pimps literally every where, in and around hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights - we found the location to be perfect - a 1 minute stroll to the bund, street food close by, shopping and markets - and other amazing food within walking distance - or if you don't want to walk, the metro goes to all places - really cheap, accessible and only a short walk from the hotel.
Room and bathroom was a little small, but clean enough.
The grounds were lovely - always tidy, and a very quaint feel about the place.
Wifi - it states only in common areas, however we had access in our room as well.
Service - was very helpful and friendly.

Overal, would recommend staying here! Great value for money!
