I had gone there on a business trip for 6 weeks and I did not feel let down or miss home at all. It is a nice hotel, with everyone speaking English. The staff is accommodating of food habits and is very helpful in planning trips for you. They have a nice Italian restaurant, but their lunch buffet could be slightly better in the international cuisine section.

It is perfectly located on Nanjing Street, next to the shopping district and very close to the river side. The hotel is the first hotel on the main road, and so taxis are also not hard to get, the hotel staff again help you with that.

Great location and nice rooms are the main points for this hotel. The buffet for meals is also nice but sometimes gets too busy. I stay here every time i visit Shanghai now and i like it. Nice spa in the hotel as well and indoor pool is also nice, with hot tub too :)

Have visited shanghai often, but first time in this wonderful five star hotel. Checking in was a breeze, The rooms were very modern, Bed was kingsize and like any starwood hotel gives you fantastic sleep. The bathroom was very modern with strong hot rain shower and big bathtub. It also had a separate toilet room all with full glass door. Breakfast was great, they have many fruits, bread and pastries, juices and yogourt drinks, salad, Japanese, chinese breakfast and international selection too. Although you have to pay for room internet, the lobby's free wifi was superfast. Most especial about this hotel is the location, as it is along the famous Nanjing East road, it is a pedestrian shopping street that is very wide and closed to vehicle. You will find a lot of things you want to buy along this street. It is also accessible to the subway. It was a pity that we only stayed here for two nights, but it was all worth it and I will definitely come back.

Room Tip: High floor

We have been staying at Le Royal Meridien during five nights in Shanghai. The hotel is very nice located, at Nanjing Road which is the most live and commercial passage in Shanghai. Apart from that fact, there is nothing very outstanding of the hotel. It is a four star hotel, but nothing to do with the other hotels we stayed at during our stay in China. Le Royal Meridien is a beatiful hotel but the service is not very remarkable, they do not change money for instance, they got machines but they change from Euro to Yuan, but not Yuan to Euro therefore we had to change at the airport. First night I asked the housekeeping an extra pillow which took about one hour, and they were very mean with the foam gel and toilet paper. Breakfast is good but with not much variety. Some details are very mean, the toilet seat was made of plastic, not ceramics, and the bed is really small. And the height of bad service was that they have to check the room before you leave just in case you are a kind of hanger thief or something and they told them that we have to leave the hotel in ten minutes which is just what we did. That is why they asked you for a credit card. If they had our credit card details why did they ask to stay there before room checking? My opinion is that this is tasteless and a lack of style. Definitely, I will never recommend or coming back to this hotel. Location is great, that's true!

We stayed here for 4 nights mid-July 2013.

The hotel is right on Nanjing East Road - the pedestrian shopping street, so is very convenient. There is always something to see and do on this street.

Hotel check-in was quick and hassle-free. I asked if it was possible to have a room on a higher floor and we were given a club room on the 62nd floor! The view was fantastic - our room looked out on the natural museum side of the city but we could also see the Pearl tower from the lift lobby. My aunts were going to check in for the last night of our stay and the reception staff member blocked out the room next door to us so we could easily visit between rooms. Note, we were offered an upgrade at an extra cost to use the club lounge, etc. but we did not need this as we were going to spend most of the day out of the hotel. We did not pay any extra for the room upgrade.

The room was luxurious, clean and comfortable. The toilet, handbasin and bath/shower are separate, which is handy when there are 2 or more people (visitors) who want to wash up. You are also given a complimentary coffee in the lounge. The air-conditioning worked very well (much needed when it was about 38 - 40C outside). The only criticism I would have of our club room was that there were no towel rails on which to hang hand/face towels. Also, because the room containing the bathtub/shower is actually the shower, clothes hung up on the hook in the bathroom tended to get a bit wet. I would like to suggest that the hotel put up extra hooks at the back of the bathtub (furthest away from the shower rose) on which to hang towels/clothing and perhaps a towel rail along the front of the basin, so you can hang up wet hand/face towels.

We had the buffet breakfast in the hotel. The breakfast was the most varied I have experienced so far - eastern and western styles of cooking. Lots of fresh fruit and fresh fruit juices, steamed foods, fried foods, pastries, cold cuts, quiche, even ice-cream! Quality of the cooking was generally good.

Generally, staff were helpful and friendly. Initially, I was weirded out by people constantly welcoming me (at the entrance to the hotel, at the lobby entrance, at the lifts, when you walk past a staff member, pretty much every 3 minutes) but after the first couple of days, I got used to it (and also worked out how to minimise the number of staff members I would walk past to leave the hotel ;p). Anyway, this is much better than having surly or unhappy hotel staff.

When my aunts checked in, their room key did not work. We contacted the concierge and a manager arrived within 5 minutes. She was also unable to get the key to work and they determined they would have to reset the door lock. We left to go out, as it was probably going to take a while. On our return, we found a box of macaroons, a plate of fresh fruit and a bottle of sparkling mineral water waiting for us, as an apology for the inconvenience. This was a very lovely touch, particularly as we had not expected it.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel - it is a bit expensive but the great service and rooms made it a lovely stay for us. I would be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Make sure you join the SPG club before staying. It's possible you would still be offered an upg...

This hotel was a disspointment, room was okay but did not have good lighting and the view was terrible. The staff should be sent to the Marco Polo or Shangi La for training as they are generally unfriendly. Breakfast was a disspointment, the best part of this hotel is the location which is fabulous, easy reach to everywhere.
