“Great stay, amazing location.”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

First time to China for me, amazing hotel, very safe, good food, on the park and the Nanjing pedestrian walking area.

Security was good and the employees spoke pretty good English. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Try the breakfast buffet, it had great food choices, u won't go away hungry.

I had the pleasure of staying at Le Royal Méridien in October for business for a period of 2 weeks. This being the case, it was important that the hotel reached a certain high home-away-from-home standard in order to maintain what remains of my sanity.
Firstly, the location is excellent. Primarily for nearby access to the Metro station on People's Square - something which any visitor should become familiar with as soon as possible, for speed and cost reasons. What to say about this hotel that hasn't already been mentioned? The cavernous, and yet welcoming ground floor entrance was always distinguished for me by one thing - the aroma, which I think emanated from scented tea-lights floating in the pool of water.
The staff were always exceptionally polite and on hand to dispense cheerful greetings or farewells. In fact, apart from the grumpy gentleman I got on the end of the line when ordering In-Room Dining a couple of times, all staff were diligent.. exemplary in their duties. I couldn't find fault with them. Language could be a problem at times, but never a large one. You should never forget that you are talking with people for whom English is not their first, or even second, language, and enunciate accordingly.
The room was a bit of a surprise. More like a small suite. Interesting method of dividing up the various living areas. Great view from the wall-to-ceiling windows. I don't think you'd find a bad view from any of the rooms, seeing as the hotel only has 3 sides. Housekeeping was thorough, and the system for requesting new bed linen and towels worked perfectly.
The food was ok, but what really stood out for me was the breakfast buffet. Oh my word. I have never been presented with such a range of high quality options for my first meal of the day. Unbeatable. The dinner buffet is also worth a try. Especially if you're a dessert buff.
Only one slight negative point - I'm sure the room was very clean, but there were stains on the carpet and the furniture - they're probably due for a proper intensive cleaning.
So. All in all - highly recommended - unbeatable value for money.
Many thanks to the staff for making this a perfect home-from-home experience.

The location is outstanding within walking distance of shopping mall, and next to the Nanjing pedestrian walk. There are a number of restaurants within the vicinity. The buffet breakfast has a wide selections and the food quality is excellent. The gym is well equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines and weight machines. The room is comfortable. It was somewhat confusing to navigate inside the hotel for the first couple days. The hotel lobby is on the 10th floor, the gym is also on the 10th but inside the elevator, there was no indication the lobby and the gym are on the same floor. To get to the street level, you have to make sure you are on the right elevator. I have never been so elevator challenged of all the travel I have done. I would definitely give it a five star if I did not have the elevator problem.

It is our pleasure to provide a convenient location, a range of culinary options, and well-equipped facilities for our guests. Our elevators were designed to match the building structure. The hotel was excellent. Fantastic location near people's park. Right next to a metro and easy access to the bund etc
We were on 35 th floor with stunning views over Shanghai.
Room was spacious and modern with all necessary equipment.
The hotel had 5 restaurants. Tried 3 of them the French one was very good ant the buffet in another was great.

Room Tip: Ask for bund view

This hotel is updated and very well staffed. The rooms are a good size and very modern. The bathrooms are enclosed glass (there is a curtain, but hard to find). The amenities include toothbrushes, and lots of options for hair and body. There is a rain shower and regular shower as well as big bath tub. Every day I was given 4 new bottles of drinking water. No need to bring a power adapter - they are in the room on the desk. The hotel was very full when I was there and I didn't hear one other guest the whole time I was in my room. The breakfast is excellent, though their servers are really slow with coffee and tea (if they come at all). There is a money changing machine in the lobby. The hotel staff was quick to attend to any question or need. The location was great - lots of things to see and very easy to get to the train. I would stay there again.

I select this hotel mainly because of the location as it is next to Nanjing East Road walking street which is great for food, walk and shop without taking taxi. The atmosphere at night in this walking street was fantastic as there were so many interesting roadside performances.
As for the hotel, room is adequate in size and comfortable except I do not like the design of the shower and bath tub together. I noticed the great improvement in staff service since my last stay two years ago. There are great choice of breakfast. The only complaint is the long wait for lift to lobby floor which could take up to 5 mins and then to change lift from lobby to the ground floor. Other than that it is a good hotel to stay.

We stayed 2 separate nights (checked out, then came back a few days later) at this hotel during a 12 day tour of China and 4 cities. We were on a family trip and I had my 2 boys in my room. For 1 or 2 people, these rooms in a city hotel would be a fine size, but for 3 of us, it was tight. ** the corner rooms are very small, we could barely fit a rollaway, it was probably not to code to have it in there. The 2nd time we checked in and had a regular room, it was more spacious, with a couch and room for the rollaway. Also, rooms with 2 beds are not twin or full size, kind of something in between. So 2 children could not share these beds, just fyi. It worked fine for us with a rollaway, but my brother's family of 4 had to make up some creative sleeping arrangements to fit. This definitely seemed like a business hotel, lots of American guests, not many families there. Which is fine! It was a beautiful hotel, and the breakfast buffet is TO DIE FOR. Amazing food, and a juice bar and fresh yogurts. Really delicious.
