“The best hotel ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2012

I have not actully stayed in this hotel overnight as I live in the city, but we put our company clients here and they always say they love it.

I do however eat breakfast here 2-4 times a week. My family and I always have large chinese dinners here too. As of April 2012 it is closed and under complete renovations for the summer of 2012. I hear there will be a new dining area, rooms, tvs, toilets, new pool and work out and snooker room.

I have to say the service here, especially in the breakfast dining room will re-define your defination of what excellent service is. They will take care of you and make you feel at home. They will remember you, and all the little details you like. Do you ask for black pepper in your eggs. Do you like a larger cup of coffee. Quite often, the next day they will remember your preferences. How is that for service! Food is very good and hot. If you need anything special, they will ask someone in the kitchen to make it for you. You will not be disapointed.

I anticipate the new reopening of the hotel. It really is a great place at an affordable price

Room Tip: excecutive rooms are stunning. The Sentosa massage center is one of the best, clean,no funny busin...

I stayed a few nights in this hotel recently. It is at least a 50 minute taxi ride from PVG airport, but it makes up for that by being a great hotel. The business lounge is clean and relaxing. The rooms are very clean and laundry is very fast. This is a great place for business travelers.

Stayed here for business in Feb 2012 for 2 nights in the executive wing.

The service here was excellent - everyone was very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate you. It may have helped that I was staying with guests who frequented the hotel but overall, they appeared to genuinely care about service (which is a rarity in China).

The gym is aged but usable. It would be nicer if they handed out larger towels than the face towels provided (but we took one from the change room where they were available).

The rooms are nice - quite modern and updated, save the TV. Bathrooms were nice, clean and relatively modern. Two complains: i) The thermostat didn't seem to automatically shut off - it was either super warm or cold... I'm not sure if it was my particular room that had this issue but from discussions with other guests, this may be the same for all rooms. ii) The toilets are very weird... it has a flush button and a "stop" button... if you don't push the stop button, the toilet continues to run water... first time I saw this and never saw it elsewhere in China (although I only stayed at two other hotels).

Regardless, it was a decent price - we were driven around as this was a business trip so I can't comment on whether it was a good location...

Very nice and big hotel. The rooms are really very big and clean as also the quality of the cinese and of the western restaurants.
The personell at the reception is very friendly and they try everytime to help you.

Btw, the hotel is very far from the city center (1 hour by car) as also from the nearest sub station.

The hotel itself is okay and the service as well. But to the hotel a KTV (karaoke) bar belongs. So it is very hard to find sleep at night because the very loud music in the night. Sometime the play until 03.00 am in the morning!!! very loud music.

If you can, stay away from the Sentosa Hotel in Shanghai/Fengxian!!!

I booked using the hotel’s own web site - http://www.sentosahotel.com/eindex.htm - and checked very carefully before fitting the proceed button, but must admit that I didn’t check the dates on the confirmation email! Upon arrival they pointed out that the booking was for the day I made it – some two weeks earlier! They then went on to claim that the only available room was a suite at double the booked price. Once they established that I wasn’t falling for that one another person took over and offered me the “disabled” room for a cheaper price than my original booking and with breakfast thrown in for free. The only difference from a normal room was that it had no window – fine if your disability is vertigo – but if you prefer a room with a window then do specify this as this hotel definitely has more rooms than windows, and unless you appreciate the convenience of having the karaoke on the same floor as your room, you might want to avoid the 5th floor – AND DO CHECK THE CONFIRMATION EMAIL! I appreciate that this was my fault for not checking but I did get the impression that their routine was well rehearsed and often used!

The hotel is in an awful location, miles from anywhere with nothing of any interest in walking distance. The 35 minute drive from the city centre quoted on the web site is out by a factor of at least 3. The Shen Long Ecological Park featured on the front page of the hotel’s web site is a 20 minute taxi rise away – the park itself is OK, just nowhere near the hotel!

On the positive side, there is an outside roof terrace bar accessed through the Santiago Restaurant on the 10th floor which is accessed from a staircase hidden around the back of the secondary lift shaft – it might take you a few days to find it! But the hotel’s best feature is the swimming pool – the longest indoor pool that I’ve seen in a Chinese hotel and with changing facilities of a genuinely 5 star standard.

So if you’re stuck in Fengxian on business and lane swimming is your preferred way to beat jet lag then this might be the place to stay.

This hotel was very nice, and my room was lovely. The inside of the room was every bit of a 5 star hotel, however it should be noted that I stayed in the new wing on the executive floor. The bed was comfy, the linens were soft, the bathroom was spacious and very nice. I used the car service to go to my meeting and the driver was friendly, spoke English and drove safe. When I work in this area again I look forward to staying at this hotel.

The only thing that should be noted is that this hotel is not close to anything in the city. If you are working in the area this is an ideal hotel, however if you are visiting Shanghai and want to do some touristy type things this is not the hotel for you.

  • Liked — The room was wonderful
  • Disliked — The location (although safe) was away from the city or anything to do
