Beautiful Hotel close to the huangpu river. Easy to walk to NanjingLu (major shopping road). Very nice rooms. Partly with river view. A must is to enjoy a drink in the roof top bar. Breakfast is international from Asia to Europe. I enjoyed my stay!

Sadly this is one of my favorite Hyatt's in the world, beautiful building, furnishings and location. I have stayed there four or five times and each time I am struck by how unimportant and poorly treated I am as a Diamond member.
This past trip, where I actually paid them a full night rate for only 4 hours before heading out to Pudong for a flight back to the states, I once again asked for the courtesy of an upgrade or larger room for the few hours. The Bund club staff person did not even make an effort to honor my request. He simply said no. Not even saying nothing is available, he just said no and when I asked him to contact the MOD he did not even honor that request. Later on as I was leaving, 1500 RMb to the hotels good later, I asked to speak to the MOD who had never heard my request and told me he would check into it and get back to me once I was back in the states. To this day no contact ever.
Summary: Beautiful property which I would always return to IF they actually treated Hyatt Diamond status as important or relevant like ALL the other Hyatt properties are so good at in the world.

Hands down, this is the best hotel to stay at if you're looking for a great experience with a fantastic view and staff. The food is also great and the rooms are modern with a contemporary flare and clean. The concierge is the best I've ever seen. I lost my passport while I was there and they knew exactly what to do. In less than a week, I had a new passport and was able to get home without rescheduling my itinerary. Oh, and yes, everyone at the hotel speaks perfect English. And they are very friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Bund.

I've stayed in Hyatt on the Bund during my recent two visits in Shanghai: one is in mid April and another is early June, both are during the weekend for 2 stays.

Thanks to my Diamond Membership, my reservations are both upgraded to a Club Room with nice Bund view, which is fantastic. There are for sure more advantages of this hotel on top of the nice Bund view:

[1] The room facilities are great, with a great comfortable King bed, good internet connection, good decoration, and nice bathroom amenities.
[2] The Staff, especially those in the Club at 3/F, is very attentive.
[3] The fitness center (which is 24/7) and the swimming pool (though I do not use the latter) are great. During my most recent stay in June, those treadmills have been upgraded too, which is awesome.
[4] It is a short walking distance to the Bund, which is about 5 minutes to Russia Embassy, and then 8 minutes to the seafront corridor.

Note that it may cost about CNY150 to travel from Shanghai Pudong Airport to the hotel, and about CNY80 to travel from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport.

If you want views of a fascinating cityscape, day and night, from in your room and out then this is as good as it gets. Hyatt on the Bund provides equal views of both Puxi (east riverbank)) and Pudong (west riverbank) Shanghai from its location along the HuangPu (Yellow Riverbank) River which bisects the city. You don’t have to choose which side you want to stay on! One is reminded of the Victoria Towers with their balanced views of both Hong Kong and Kowloon. This location is not close to a subway station but taxis are always plentiful.

Get a room in the East Tower. All floors have great views but probably 10th floor and above is best. This hotel is not quaint, bed n breakfasty or a boutiquey. It is a large hotel but everything is just right and the staff are beyond efficient – they make you smile. Some special dishes from the restaurant like ‘beggars chicken’ must even be reserved a day or two in advance! Richard Branson and Paris Hilton stay here when in town!

I want to write about this Hyatt as your starting point for seeing the cityscape. Tip 1 – search the internet for a picture of The Bund about a hundred years ago and about 25 years ago. Print them out and compare to today. Tip 2 -- the city lights go out before 11 pm and that coincides with the time most people in Shanghai just start to go inside. So divide your day into three parts; daylight, dusk to 11pm and after 11pm. Daytime enjoy the views from your room. One of the few times when staying in your room on a trip will be a good thing. Walk the promenade along the river on the Puxi side - about a mile one way and begins 5 minutes from the hotel. Choose a good spot and get your picture taken – worthwhile and better than a selfie. The historic, European looking buildings all have explanatory plaques about their origin in early days of commerce. Take the ferry to Pudong. Location is well marked. Get to the rail so you can enjoy the views as you cross. Costs about a dollar and is the best view in Shanghai. For cityscape gawking go up a couple of the five buildings among the world’s 10 tallest. Have a lunch or early dinner in one of the restaurants facing the river in the Superbrand mall. Very affordable, great views.

From dusk to 11pm there are three things to do. First take the ferry back across the river. Views are even better with the city lights on. Next, walking back towards the Hyatt, stop at the rooftop bar, Bar Rouge, for another great vantage point and before the crowds arrive. Lastly return to the Hyatt. Enjoy the night views from your room and then go up to the top of the Hyatt to the Vue bar. More great views. And hey there is even a hot tub to dangle your tired legs in while you sip some wine.

For cityscape gapers this is the best.

Room Tip: East tower 10th floor or above for the views

Stayed on Business for 3 nights and it was an absolutely flawless stay (though I came back to the hotel only to sleep and eat). Rooms are clean and well equipped like most newer Hyatt Properties, comfortable beds and neat furnishings without any clutter. Breakfast spread for any non-Chinese traveler was a delight - everything that is required even for staunch vegetarians was available and we were spoilt for choice. The room service is quick and understands English very well once explained. Was able to get good vegeterian food !

I would have been happy to give away 5 stars had there been an iPod dock and centralized touch-controls for lighting (which sometimes were a pain to operate manual switches on and off). Also my check in and check out took longer than usual despite pre booking on a website. I am sure they will look into this and increase thier front desk staff strength. Overall highly recommended !
