We are currently staying at this hotel...I could not be happier with it. I would definitely recommend it. The rooms are very comfortable and so are the beds. I am a mother traveling with my adult daughter and the area feels very safe walking even at night. It is very close to the Bund and Nanjing Pedestrian shopping area. I would recommend either a taxi or from the PVG airport we took the Malgev train and then taxi from the train station.

I enjoyed this hotel much more than the JW Marriott Shanghai. It was easy to get to, easy to walk to everything, and staff eager to please. The bed was thee most comfortable I have ever had in China. Only wish I could have stayed longer. Really a great value for the money and much more reasonably priced than JW Marriott. (Try the White Pizza on the room service menu - super fresh ingredients-fantastico)! Pool was fantastic also!

Excellent hotel which helped to make our stay in what turned out to be a very rainy stay in Shanghai memorable. Service by all staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful at all times. Located within walking distance of the Bund and near the Yu Gardens and market - its location may not appeal to some travellers, but it suited us just fine.

ROOMS - We upgraded to the Executive Club rooms when we arrived. We had two rooms, one with two doubles which was very spacious and a King bedded room which was smaller but still very spacious. One room had a view of the Bund, the other did not which was a pity, but as we had upgraded we had use of the Executive Club which had an excellent view, even on rainy days! The upgrade was worth every extra penny, it provided us with a good communal point and the perks were excellent:

inclusive breakfast which was constantly stocked up
non-alcholic drinks available from 06.00 to 24.00
complimentary pre-dinner buffet and drinks between 17.30 and 19.30
complimentary desserts and drinks between 19.30 and 22.30
free Internet use which my children found useful to catch up with their friends

The staff in the Executive Club were all helpful especially Leila who went out of her way to make our stay very special.

The Food - we ate once in the hotel restaureant and the food was good but a little expensive for what we ate - we decided to go for the buffet but not being big eaters it probably was not worthwhile (£100 for four). One night we ate in our rooms and the food was very good, enough for us and reasonable. The service both times was good.

We also made use of the swimming pool which has an excellent view - even if you do not wish to swim it is worth going up to.

Overall a very good stay and we would certainly stay here again. The General Manager also made himself known to guests which is always a good sign.

stayed here recently for 3 nights over a weekend, between two weeks of business in China, and it was a welcoming and comfortable place to be. got a great deal of 3 nights for the price of two, so each night cost us about £70, and then chose to ugrade to club floor on arrival, as that meant we got free breakfast, free internet in room and in the club lounge, and happy hour in the club lounge from 5.30 to 9.30, with more than enough for dinner to eat for free. Swimming pool was on the roof and impressive with fantastic views, water a bit cold, but nice warm jacuzzi nearby! view from the Club Lounge was worth the cost of the upgrade alone, stunning nighttime view across the river to Pudong. Room was modern, ultra clean, comfortable, great shower, and lovely style - will definitely stay here again and was sad to leave.

I have stayed here many times over the last 18 months Senior management is top grade but they cannot seem to get the rank and file employees up to snuff. I finally gave up and have moved my business to the Ritz. First of all the location, because of construction, makes it difficult to get a taxi. The team helping barely speak English and are of little help even in finding the most well known placces. The level of English at the hotel is very low making communication, even for a simple wake up call a challenge. Again, speak to management and you feel better. I stayed this long because of my belief they could improve things and they are really nice people. Many other places in Shanghai top this hotel.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in January 2008 during some rough snowstorms. The quality of the rooms were outstanding and the staff were very helpful with directions and places to go. If you go, be sure to go for a swim on the top-floor infinity pool overlooking the city!

As mentioned in a couple of the other reviews, taxis find it a bit tricky to find this place given all the building work going on, but this never became much of an issue with us, so don't let it stop you.

Just back from Shanghai, stayed at Renaisance Yuyuan, really good location as it's close to the Yuyuan Garden & great shopping, just next door down the alley and you're there, also close to the Bund.
But road works leading up to Expo '10 and a major construction site right next door make it very difficult for taxi's to work out where they are going to drop you, so get ready for a few trips around the block.
Decor is exciting, but the furniture in the rooms is uncomfortable, we stayed in a suite, it was large but the lounge chairs where so hard and uncomfortable that we couldn't use them. Staff are a bit unorganised, and don't worry about paying more for the Club as the facilities and food do not meet the usual Marriott standard, save your money for the excellent eateries close by.
