“Excellent Day”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

We took the morning and sunset cruise on the same day. The boat that we were on was new in the summer 2013. It was very very comfortable. Both cruises were excellent but the sunset would be our choice if you had to chose between the two. The Captain and the naturalist were both knowledgeable and personable. In addition to the information on the delta's plant animal and geography, we were given a history of the area concerning the civil war and the settling of the area.

These people know customer service. If you are looking for an outdoor experience call them. You will be in good company. I hear that they were the guides for Andrew Zimmern on a Bizarre Foods America.

“Fun in the sun”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

We took out individual kayaks. It was very nice. I have had a love of manatees since I was a girl. The staff was great about pointing us in the right direction where we might get a glimpse of them. No luck this trip. Wonderful place to enjoy local wildlife, even for locals like us! We have also been on their night gator tours! Those are a blast! Perfect for kids and kids at heart!

“Bowfishing is a waste of your time and money - avoid this rip off”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

Our group of 5 decided this bowfishing adventure looked like fun. We called 5RDS and left a message to which we recieved a return phone call a couple hours later. We paid the $150.00 deposit and set the date and time. At the time we were unsure how many but we knew it would be 4 or 5. The brochure said the boat could have up to 6.

We arrived at The 5 Rivers Delta Preserve about 20 mins early on that evening. The guides were just gettting ready to put the pontoon boat in the water. While that was happening, we got a quick tutorial on how to use the bows equiped with reels. The guides only had 4 bows and could not locate another. Their brochure says up to 6 but they cannot actually handle that many participants. They did waive the fee for the 5th person as they would not have a bow of their own and would have to share.

The boat arrived and we prepared to set off on our 4 hour adventure. The first hour we were treated to a beautiful sunset, compliments of mother nature. Once the sun went down, we started to look for fish. The guide said we were still in the channel but we did see some crab that could be speared, a small stingray, and a very few average size fish. Little did we know that this would be the highlight of our fishing experience.

Unfortunetly, the next 3 hours went by with close to nothing to shoot at. The only fish we saw were very fast movers and nothing bigger than around 6 to 10 inches. Most of the fish we saw were small needle fish or very small gar - not big enough to shoot at unless you are an expert marksman with a bow.

The only excitement we had in those three hours was due to the inexperience of our guides. The boat was equipped with a fan and a trolling motor. This pontoon boat is very front heavy due to its design. At one point, the guilde cut off the trolling motor while alot of weight was at the very front and the boat took on significant water. All of our shoes got wet and had this not been a pontoon, it would have sunk. 3 times in that boring 3 hours, the lights went out on the boat for around a total of 45 mins. This was only eclipsed by the multiple and many times the boat got stuck in shallow water. I would say a flat bottomed boat would be more suited to this type of trip.

This trip was very disappointing. When I asked the guilde if our experience was typical, he just said "That's fishing", We paid $125 per person to catch a total of 4 fish, none of which were larger than 8 inches. I would NOT recommend this so called adventure. It is not worth the money. Do not let the pictures on the brochure sway you as we did not see hardly any fish, much less of the size you see there.

I suspect this outfit does a much better job of the eco-tours than bowfisihing. I think the bowfishing was a second thought and I did not see much experience in the guides. Waste of our money and time.

“Rainy, but great”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

We took a tour in the rain, but we still saw two alligators and a bunch of very cool wildlife. The operators were very knowledgable and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They recommended a great restaurant, the Blue Gill and we would recommend going to take any tour they offer.

“Wonderful field trip for both children and adults!”
Reviewed 31 March 2013

I am a teacher's aide, and we took 4 classes on this field trip. First through fourth grade. Every child enjoyed the trip as did the teachers and adults who went. We went in March this year, which is not the best time to see critters in the delta on the boat ride. However, the guides for the ride and the museum (?) were so helpful and very good with children! We learned a lot from this trip about our local ecosystem. I even learned how to distinguish between venomous and non-venomous snakes. The movie they showed was very good, and just long enough to calm the children down but not so long to bore them. It was just all out a good trip! I recommend anyone to go there, no matter your age.
