This place was wonderful! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great taste of seafood. From crab claws to fresh atlantic salmon, this place has it all. If there is a wait to get in the restaurant to eat.....WAIT! It is well worth it! I plan on sending all family and friends to Tin Top!

I posted my concern about this establishment on their Facebook page, but my concerns were deleted. NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL!!! So I am reviewing them here. Upon arrival, we sat at the bar area and were greeted by a very nice bar staff. We had a table of four and waited for almost 30 minutes before being seated. During this wait, we ordered a bottle of wine and a dozen oysters on the half shell. About the time we received our oysters, our table was ready. Once seated our server took our order, two Seafood Alfredo's, a 12 oz. Prime Rib, and their Steamer Platter. Sadly, our food took an hour to get. About 30 minutes into our wait, our server informed my mother, who ordered the Prime Rib, that they were not prepared for the amount of business that they received tonight so they had to cook more. Our server informed my mother that the Prime Rib was overdone and my mother decided that she would take the overcooked Prime Rib because she had her heart set on it. So we finally got our food, 30 minutes later. The food was good. However, the Seafood Alfredo had pieces of crab shell in it. We skipped desert and our serve brought the check. After noticing that the oysters were not included in the check, our server advised us that they were on the house. This made my mother, who was picking up the check ($100 for four), very happy as they would have been $20. On a side note, in the men's bathroom they had hand sanitizer in the soap dispenser instead of soap. I am not sure if we will be back if it takes an hour to receive our food. My mother chose to eat here because we did not want to have to cook due to my wife and stepfather, who are both nurses at DCH, not getting off till 7pm. Again, I informed the establishment about my concerns on their Facebook page, but they were deleted.

Today was my first visit, but I had some of the best fish I've ever eaten. Very fresh, juicy, perfectly seasoned, reasonable price. I plan to go back soon. I had the lunch catch.
I've tried every restaurant in Tuscaloosa that serves seafood, and I liked this one the best.

This review is not based on one visit to the Tin Top, but more than 50 visits since it opened at the Shops of Lake Tuscaloosa in August 2010. Plus, I've been to the Tin Top's first location, in Bon Secour on the Alabama gulf coast, even more times than that over the past 5 years. The Tin Top in Bon Secour has been my absolute favorite restaurant in recent years and I was delighted when a new Tin Top opened less than 2 miles from my house. And, that delight has been justified! The Tin Top in Tuscaloosa is now my new favorite, edging out the original slightly.

The food at the Tin Top is excellent. I'm a big steak eater. The Tin Top has the best steaks in Tuscaloosa--and I've eaten steaks in almost every restaurant in Tuscaloosa. My favorite is their rib-eyes, which are flavorful, tender, and juicy with the right amount of marbling. As would be expected from a restaurant whose origins are on the Alabama coast, the seafood is also excellent. I particularly like their shrimp, crab cakes, and fish fillets. (I'm not an oyster lover.) The fish fillets are a white fish and are huge, moist, and flaky. I tried many of the other entrees and also enjoyed them. One thing that also stands out for me, especially if you want something light and inexpensive, is their homemade chicken salad.

Most meals come with two sides and there's a variety of salads, potatoes, and other vegetables to choose from. I'm partial to either a lettuce wedge or caesar salad as one side, and either fried green tomatoes or lima beans as the second side. The French fries are hit or miss--sometimes perfect, but other times cold or salty. (I suspect that their fries don't get ordered often because there are more exciting things to eat at the Tin Top.) The onion rings, which are on the appetizers menu, are excellent--and an order is huge!

I'm not a big dessert eater, but I have tried all of their desserts except the bread puddings. All were great. I especially like the chess pie and creme brule. To me, their desserts have just the right level of sweetness; it doesn't overpower. Too many times, desserts at restaurants are way too sweet.

I'm single and have gotten to the point where I'm tired of cooking for myself after a busy day at work. I stop at the Tin Top on my way home from work 2 or 3 nights a week. The only reason that I can afford this is the Early Bird Specials. The prices from 4-6 PM and at lunch on Saturday and Sunday are excellent! For example, the price (before tax and tip) of an 8 oz. rib eye with two sides (such as a salad and a veggie or potato) and a soft drink or tea is only $12.99. And, that's for an excellent steak that is big. The Tin Top's 8 oz steaks seem bigger than the 12 oz steaks of many restaurants. The Tin Top fried seafood platter on the Early Bird or lunch menu is also a great deal. One HUGE white fish fillet, 3 shrimp, 3 oysters, 1 crab cake (my favorite!), 2 hush puppies, 2 sides, and soft drink or tea for only $12.99. And, the rib-eye and seafood platter are the priciest things on the Early Bird menu. Most of the other meals on that menu are about $8.99.

The restaurant is very clean and pleasant. There is even a gas log fire, which I like to sit next to. It can be busy, but I almost always arrive before 6 PM and I've never had to wait for a table.

The service is consistently excellent. The servers and the manager are all very attentive. They take orders promptly (and the food arrives in just the right amount of time) and they always keep my glass filled with soda or water. I really have been to the Tin Top in Tuscaloosa over 50 times and the service has been great every single time.

In summary, I encourage you to try the Tin Top!
