“Good food, but definitely overpriced”
Reviewed 7 January 2012

I have been to Tin Top in Tuscaloosa 3 times, and each experience was the same. The food is very tasty, although not exactly fine dining (lots of fried seafood, baked oysters etc.) Normally I like that type of food and, again, the food here is not the problem.

The problem is when you take a very good beachside restaurant from South Alabama and plant a sister restaurant in a strip center development in Tuscaloosa, AL, you lose the whole flavor of what makes the original a good place. Add on top that you are still charging beachside prices and you end up with a mediocre dining experience with good seafood that is WAY overpriced for this area. If you want good fried seafood in Tuscaloosa go to Wintzell's instead. The food as about the same, but at least you get a view of the river instead of a parking lot and the cost will be between a third to half lower.

“Great Seafood and Service!”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

The seafood here rivals restuarants found on the coast. The prices aren't terrible but enough to keep me from going too often. I've only been once but the whole group enjoyed it.

I plan to go here for my next "big occasion" dinner.

“Very disappointing...”
Reviewed 8 November 2011

After reading the reviews and the menu, I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. What a disappointment! We went for lunch/brunch on Sunday. They were not busy at all, and the service was SO SLOW! The fried green tomatoes were below average, the cheese grits had way too much pepper, and the Tin Top omelet was not as described... It had tons of bell peppers, not mentioned in the description, and the crawfish in the omelet was extremely "fishy" tasting. The menu advertises "thick sliced bacon", which in actuality was thin and soggy. Definitely would not eat here again!

“update on my earlier review”
Reviewed 21 July 2011

The lunch catch is still the best fish in Tuscaloosa, and a good price. But they have a limited number of side items, and sometimes they're out of those. Fried green tomatoes are no good.
I was very disappointed in the Sunday brunch. The eggs benedict were tough, and the sauce was stiff, not good at all. The fresh fruit with cream was delicious.
I tried the shrimp remolaude, and while the shrimp was fresh and excellent, the sauce was mediocre and disappointing.
