We had a lovely night's stay here, relaxing in the comfortable lounges filled with sofas, elegant side tables, and lush, green plantings inside the lounge. Our room was comfortable too, (though not spacious by American standards, ....the "queen" bed was what I would call a double). The elegant bed had the most comfortable mattress of the 3 hotels we stayed in while in Costa Rica, and the bathroom had plenty of hot water (once we figured out how to turn it on). Mini-fridge nice extra. We chose to pay for A/C, and did turn it on (in January), though a room with a good fan might have been OK too. The hotel was just charming inside. Wi-fi worked near lobby & public spaces, intermittently in room.
We will definitely stay here again if flying in or out of San Jose. We liked being within walking distance of the central park and its cathedral, and several restaurants (including a tex mex place which we liked as much as other Trip Advisor folks). And it's 10 minutes door to door to airport, reasonably-priced taxi trip.
The staff were very friendly, and despite my limited Spanish and the day-time staff's limited English, directed us to a great fish place 2 blocks away for a quick lunch, and also called us a taxi.
Only complaint is they did not tell us until 9:50 p.m. that if we were paying by VISA we had to pay before 10 pm because the morning staff would not be able to process it before our 6:45 am departure, and in our hurry to pay the bill, we didn't notice til later it was $5 more than quoted (before the extra 13% tax)...but it will still very good value.
