We had a lovely night's stay here, relaxing in the comfortable lounges filled with sofas, elegant side tables, and lush, green plantings inside the lounge. Our room was comfortable too, (though not spacious by American standards, ....the "queen" bed was what I would call a double). The elegant bed had the most comfortable mattress of the 3 hotels we stayed in while in Costa Rica, and the bathroom had plenty of hot water (once we figured out how to turn it on). Mini-fridge nice extra. We chose to pay for A/C, and did turn it on (in January), though a room with a good fan might have been OK too. The hotel was just charming inside. Wi-fi worked near lobby & public spaces, intermittently in room.

We will definitely stay here again if flying in or out of San Jose. We liked being within walking distance of the central park and its cathedral, and several restaurants (including a tex mex place which we liked as much as other Trip Advisor folks). And it's 10 minutes door to door to airport, reasonably-priced taxi trip.

The staff were very friendly, and despite my limited Spanish and the day-time staff's limited English, directed us to a great fish place 2 blocks away for a quick lunch, and also called us a taxi.

Only complaint is they did not tell us until 9:50 p.m. that if we were paying by VISA we had to pay before 10 pm because the morning staff would not be able to process it before our 6:45 am departure, and in our hurry to pay the bill, we didn't notice til later it was $5 more than quoted (before the extra 13% tax)...but it will still very good value.

We stayed here on our last night in Costa Rica and were delightfully surprised by the old world classic beauty of the hotel. Our room and bathroom was clean, and very comfortable. There was even a little fridge for our use.
We had to leave too early for a proper breakfast but still we were given fruit, fruit juice ( one of those delicious smoothies) and cups of coffee, so early it was still dark out.

Nice, clean hotel with a couple of lounge areas. Included is a lovely breakfast. Within walking distance to banks, stores, restaurants, pharmecies and a really nice park to people watch. Felt safe here. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good.

This is a very comfortable and inexpensive hotel a block from the central cathedral. Breakfast is included, and it is very delicious. This hotel was the home of the owner, her parents, and her grandparents. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in Alejuela. The doors are locked at all times, so it is very safe.

Room Tip: Ask for the upstairs room with an outside balcony--a REAL DEAL for the money!

Literally 5 minutes from airport- great place to stay to avoid san jose city if u are moving on the next day.

Stayed here on first and last night in costa rica. Good basic room, hot hot shower, good breakfast that conveniently starts at 6 am for early flights. Nice boutique interiors with lots of common areas - is a lot nicer then the photos. No noise from other rooms so had a good nights sleep.

The resturant on the corner at the end of the block is nice and good value.

Would stay here again,

If u are interested in hiring a car- there is a rental company a couple of doors down that the hotel recommends, great service. Staff very friendly and gave us a free ride to the airport the next day.

From the outside, this small hotel looks like any other business building in Alajuela...it's pretty much a wall with a door at one end. Go inside and the view changes: It is an historic, charming old place, filled with lovely carved antique furniture. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. The location is just a short drive from the airport, and only a few blocks from an excellent tex-mex restaurant ( Jalapeno Central). 1915 Hotel was a top pick among the moderately priced hotels in the Lonely Planet Travel Guide. I think the guide got it right: In short, it's a great place to stay.

This hotel is beautiful! The neighborhood is interesting, but right across the street there is a police station (and a delicious local food joint). To enter the hotel you must ring a door bell and the desk clerk will open the door. We had a room with a very nice balcony and roomy bathroom. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
