George, the owner of the small Bed & Breakfast, is very kind and helps you out wherever he can. He took us with him in his car to the fruit market and he stored part of our luggage during our trip through CR. The rooms are clean and the bed gave us one of our best sleeps. We enjoyed the breakfast with fresh lokal fruits and homemade bananabread.
Alajuela is a good start to your CR trip, time too cool down after a long flight. We stayed two nights at the begin of our trip and one night at the end.

George was a wonderful host and the room we spent a night in was comfortable and the bathroom luxurious for us, and extremely clean. His lovely housekeeper was warm and friendly too. George even sent us off at around 4 a.m. for our flight with homemade banana bread!

My wife and I have spent a month in Costa Rica for each of the past 4 years and we have previously treated Alajuela as just nice city to stay in for one night as a necessary jumping off or returning point. This year, after our stay in the mountains of San Gerardo de Dota went bust due to high winds and cold temps we decided to travel back to alajuela 2 days sooner and wanted a place that was more than just a quick overnight. With Alegria we got much more than we expected. Alegria B& B is a beautiful home on the outskirts of the city. Our host, George, provided us with great information on just about everything we needed to know from dependable car rentals (we had just been badly burned by a rental company that was recommended on the internet) to the best places to eat. George is also an impressive breakfast cook. We could not finish the spread that he provided of fresh baked banana bread, eggs and homemade sausage and 5 kinds of fresh fruit. We stayed in the largest bedroom that had a king sized bed which provided us with the most comfortable nights of sleep we had the whole month. Finally, the most important aspect of our stay at Alegria was George. The attitude of your host can make or brake the experience. From the first handshake it was clear that George's mission was to make it seem like we were already home. We are coming back next year and Alegria will now be an integral part of our Costa Rica experience. Thanks George!

Room Tip: For the $10 to $ 20 extra go for the largest room. All of the other rooms would have been fine.

We recently spent a couple of weeks in Costa Rica, flying into and out of San Jose. The Alegria B&B was recommended to us as a good place to rest, get our bearings, and begin our trip. We couldn't have been more pleased. It's a small place, with just 3 bedrooms, two with ensuite bathrooms and one with a bathroom across the hall. George, the proprietor, made us feel welcomed from the beginning when he picked us up at the airport. We stopped on the way back to the inn to pick up some travel supplies, then headed to the B&B to rest up for the next day's driving to Arenal. George arranged for a rental car to be dropped off the next morning, and found us a good deal on the rental. We enjoyed George's hospitality and breakfasts so much, we decided to spend two nights there before our departure, so as to have a day to enjoy seeing the local sights such as Poas, a coffee plantation, etc. We would all (4 of us) highly recommend the Alegria B&B and George as host. This place is not fancy, but very comfortable, and just what we needed.

George is an expat who has lived in Costa Rica for eight years. He offers a home from home experience. He was 100% reliable. He picked us up at the airport as arranged and had organised a transfer for us as planned and for the price quoted. We stayed in the large room with the bathroom and this was at the back of the home so was quiet. We recommend this place to all.

This was our third time staying with George at the beautiful Alegria B &B. It is the perfect place to start and end your adventure in Costa Rica. George provides a fantastic service of picking you up at the airport, great to see a friendly face among the sea of taxi drivers vying for your attention. Alegria is only 5 minutes from the international airport and is very convenient for those early morning flights back to the States. George is a wonderful host and makes delicious breakfasts. He will pack a breakfast for you to go if you have an early morning flight. His house is beautiful, has wifi, and plenty of hot water. He is so helpful and knowledgeable about the area and restaurants and will call a taxi for you for your flight back home, the taxi stand is very close to his house so they will be there within minutes of him calling them. We plan to stay with George at Alegria Bed and Breakfast every time we come to Costa Rica.

We stayed here two nights upon arriving in Costa Rica in mid-January. George met us at the airport, despite the fact that our plane was hours late and it was the middle of the night, and graciously took us to his lovely home and helped us get settled in. The breakfasts were lovely, with an assortment of fruit, good eggs, muffins, fruit juice, etc. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, hot and cold water, and a toilet linked to a sewer (NOT that common in Costa Rica). George arranged for a friend of his, Luis, who is a bilingual taxi driver, to spent a day taking us around to sites like the Doka coffee plantation and Poas Volcano -- it was a marvelous time. I would return to this charming home 100 times out of 100.

Room Tip: They're all lovely.
