“Low-key friendly place to stay”
Reviewed 12 April 2014

I stayed here on the first night and last night of my trip to Costa Rica. The hostel is run by a mother and daughter who were really nice. I used the Home Base service of A Safe Passage at costaricabustickets.com and this was the hotel I was brought to. It was really close the the airport and had everything I needed for my short stay. My bed was comfortable and my room had a private bathroom and fan. The sheets looked pretty old but otherwise the room was clean. There was free wireless which was great especially when you want to tell your family you've arrived safely.

much better, then anything in San Jose, that you can get for this price. Just a few minutes to the airport, so this place is perfect for the first or last night. The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly, thats all we need here ;-)

Travelers should be advised that all of the rooms in this hotel as well as the bathroom and shower area have peep holes drilled into the walls and ceiling.

Los viajeros deben saber que todas las habitaciones en este hotel, así como el baño y la ducha tienen mirillas perforados en las paredes y el techo.

~Oct 2011

After a brief stay at Cala Inn I was asked to relocate due to overbooking bringing me here to the Paradise Hotel. Located just a few blocks north of central Alajuela. The place is small, maybe consisting of 10 or so rooms, some with ensuite and others with shared facilities.

Being here during the green(wet) season vacancies are plentiful. Today I am the only one here. I chose a private room with shared washroom for 20us/night and have it all to myself.

The staff are friendly enough considering my Spanish is near zero. Clean towels are provided daily and the floors shine and the bathroom is checked regularly. There is a communal kitchen with fridge, sink, toaster, coffee maker, micro, cooking elements, and necessary essentials. There is also laundry machines but I haven't asked about usage or cost.

The room comes with ceiling fan, sheets, t.v., reading lamp, hangers to dry cloths(very much required), towel, soap and water cups.

There are no other amenities but stores and shops are all close as are eateries. If staying here I strongly recommend an afternoon/evening at Bar Rio De Janerio across the street. Good food, music, and quite lively with the locals.

Our room had no window and we heard everything from the lobby, but it was relatively clean.
Of course you may not look accurate in costa rica hotels.
You don´t get a key from the housedoor, evereytime when you come and go you have to ring.
Sometimes there is no electricity for some hours (this seems to be normal in Costa Rica) and this is in this hotel a bit difficult, because there is no window and the shower doesn´t work without elektricity.
The breakfast ist continental and precious little, but the place where we got ist was nice, it was in a inner yard.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
The value for money is very good, the double-room costs $ 35,00.

We stayed 3 nights here! It was splendid, peaceful, yet close to everything we wanted for the last few nights in Costa Rica. It was safe, secure and the rooms are clean. The staff was warm, friendly and welcoming. They made us feel right at home...

Room Tip: We enjoyed the room with the exterior window. No street noise!

We stayed here a night before a flight the next morning out of San Jose International Airport. It’s more of a guest house than a hotel, with very pleasant and comfortable rooms, a light breakfast included consisting of coffee or tea, toast and jam, and a fresh fruit salad, and with seating and hammocks in the garden out back and in the open-air passageway. It was very conveniently located to stores, restaurants and the town square, and the airport was mere minutes away by taxi. The staff we came in contact with did not speak English very well but we got by with my limited Spanish and a Spanish phrase book; they were very friendly and accommodating, and I would return if I ever found myself in Alajuela again.
