This is a great spot to start or end a trip to Costa Rica. This is a quiet and beautiful B & B which is less than 1 hour from the San Jose Airport. Also near the stunning Poas Volcano and the wonderful Doka Coffee Plantation (tours available).

This B&B is located on a coffee plantation with beautiful gardens surrounding it. It was so quiet during our stay because our family was the only one staying there at the time. The caretakers were friendly and hospitable and made the best gallo pinto I've ever had! Breakfast was fabulous overall. The rooms were small, especially the bathrooms, and we had a little problem with sugar ants. Not the cleanest room I've ever stayed in, but I am picky and few hotels in Costa Rica really meet my standard of cleanliness! The weather is cool, because it's located in the mountains, which was very nice. And they have many rooms to choose from and let us select the ones we wanted. There is not a lot to do in the area, so we really used it as a launching pad for the activities around the Poas area - like the volcano, La Paz waterfall gardens and the Doka estate. All activities, though, are about 30 minutes away, which we didn't know - we had thought it would be a little bit closer than that, but driving the winding roads in the mountains can be deceiving if you look only at kms. Our only real problem was getting there, because it wasn't in the GPS we rented, so we put in the Doka Estates since it's supposedly part of the plantation, but that took us to an entirely different part of the plantation and on some real backroads. Thankfully the workers at the plantation knew how to direct us to the B&B so we eventually made it and before dark. It was also a learning experience for us, having small children in our group. We wouldn't recommend it for kids because it is, after all, a home converted into a B&B. Thankfully no one was there, like I said, so we didn't have to keep the kids too quiet. It's definitely a nice little hidden spot though, that would be a great alternative to hotels in the Alajuela area or on your way up to Poasito/Varablanca.
