Description: This restaurant had the best food and service of all the places where we ate in Costa Rica. Family owned and always on site. Cozy, very clean, and surrounded by beautiful vegetation. Friendly and helpful staff. I highly recommend the casados, a local dish - delicious! I ate it in other restaurants but it couldn't be compared to Chubascos. I swear I could eat that every day. For dessert, try the home made apple pie (Costa Rican apples) and the arroz con leche. Ah, and do not forget to try their natural fruit drinks. Their coffee is pretty good too.

Probably the best place we ate in Costa Rica! The portion sizes are generous, the staff lovely, the food fresh and delicious (be sure to try an antojito!), and the prices quite reasonable. If you visit Poas, be sure to stop by for a hearty lunch or dinner!

“A wonderful lunch.”
Reviewed 31 January 2014 via mobile

Our first meal in CD on our way to Poasito after dealing with the crazy hustle of San Jose. The food was superb and the pace relaxed and tranquil. Prices were not outlandish. Portions are sizeable. Hummingbirds abound in this rental setting. Glad we stopped.

“Good Food in a beautiful setting...”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

We stumbled upon this lovely restaurant one day when we were exploring a different way to Poas . It is set in a green paradise near the village of Frajanes on the way to Poas Volcano.
As we are always looking for something new we decided to stop for lunch. The parking area was a garden of natural flowers and plants, large trees and singing birds. Yes, I know that I am supposed to be reviewing a restaurant, but Chubascos is more than just a restaurant. Now this is not you typical tourist restaurant. Upon entering we were greeted by a smiling Senorita and as I am some what limited and need the assistance of a cane to walk she assisted us to a beautiful corner where we felt like we were sitting in the middle of the forest (there were windows all around that can be opened or closed depending on the weather.

Now to the good part... The menu was large and diverse (English translation was available) and from snooping at the adjoining tables everything looked fantastic. while we decided what
we were going to eat a nice sized plate of Piticones and Frijoles
molida were presented complimentary. The food and drinks were served promptly and we watched as they were being prepared in the open kitchen. For Desert there was a large selection to choose from, and GOOD. The food is Typical Costa Rican fare , well prepared. There is also a good selection of Steaks and Fresh Seafood as well. Prices a medium and worth it. Oh, the portions are large and presented beautifully .

We have been back many times and the service and the food is always great. So if you are in the area it is worth trying. I'll b et you will love it.

“Worth the wait”
Reviewed 29 December 2013 via mobile

Stopped here after a trip to Poas volcano. It was recommended to my Costa Rican cousins by a local. We arrived around 2 pm and it was packed, so we had a bit of a wait. Most of our group ordered the casado, which was a homey generous plate with rice, beans, a salad, fried plantains, two small tortillas, a slice of local cheese, potatoes and chicken, beef or pork that were sort of like pot roast or shredded meat. Good thing we were all famished. I powered through half my plate and was stuffed. Tried the cheesecake with local strawberries and it was good but not your 'standard' cheesecake. The taste was a bit like flan. The best thing I tried, though, were the drinks, or refrescos. We got a strawberry drink and a lemonade with mint. They were fantastic. The ambience was nice and cozy. on a warmer day I would like to be seated in the outdoor dining area as it appears to have a pleasant view.
