Just spent two wonderful nights at Xandari to wrap up a 10 day Costa Rica vacation. Xandari is a gem nestled in the mountains above San Jose, with beautiful grounds that contain an exceptional diversity of plant life. Its tranquil gardens, homemade food, and kind staff made our stay truly memorable. Hats off to Matilde, Diana, and Alexander, who are a joy in the main restaurant, as well as to Conrad who is a master of massage at the spa. Highly recommend Xandari for persons who enjoy a laid back, artsy, and personalized vibe without the superficial flashiness.

We stayed in a very well kept nicely appointed spacy studio with an amazing view all over San Jose. Staff is very friendly and the whole place has a bit of a cosy eco atmosphere. Food is nice. The real added value is the botanical gardens with waterfalls and all.

We stayed one night at Xandari during a recent trip to Cost Rica. We were quite impressed by the property and how the owners had put in great effort to reforest the land with native plants to recreate the biodiversity. In fact I did a birding trip while there and saw 34 species of birds. I commend the owners for doing a great job of preserving and restoring the natural landscape. The rooms were quite large and luxurious (we stayed in one of the villas) and the views from the balcony was just amazing. We had hummingbirds, blue-gray tanagers and several other birds right outside our room. The staff was very friendly and we were offered complimentary beverages as well as given great customer service. We also liked the food. Overall I would greatly recommend the lodge. I would also recommend Jose who was my birding guide at the lodge for his great talent for locating birds.

We stayed here on our last night in Costa Rica and I wish we had more time to just sit and enjoy this hotel and we don't usually like to just sit in a hotel. We were greeted with fresh fruit drinks and then escorted to our room. We were given an upgrade to the ultra room. They are free standing bungalow type rooms. I loved the artists touch to this property and the vibrant colors. The rooms were huge, clean and very comfortable. The showers are situated in such a way that they are indoors but surrounded by windows with views to the lush jungle and scenery yet still very private. The view looking out over San Jose was just wonderfully beautiful!!! And there was a palapa type umbrella on our private outdoor porch and sitting area. It was all so comfortable and beautiful. I would definitely stay here again when we return! We had a very early flight the next morning so the staff hooked us up with a pre packaged breakfast with fruit, yogurt, muffins and juices. That was very thoughtful and helpful!

Although it's difficult to find and away from the city a xandari is a true gem. The rooms are fantastic, the view from the private balconies overlooking San Jose and the airport in the distance is spectacular, the grounds the restaurant are great. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: A must stay experience!

We spent our first and the last two nights of our vacation in this lovely place. It is close to the airport but still in the "wild". The size of the property is not easily appreciated unless you go for one of the walks. The waterfalls are worth the effort! The staff were friendly and the room clean.

We ended our trip with a two-night stay in an Ultra Plus villa at Xandari which was incredibly spacious and full of light thanks to floor to ceiling windows. I was amazed at the original art work and incredible architectural aspects of our villa and the other buildings which are part of Xandari. This resort is a little slice of heaven and a great place to end your vacation. The views of the Poas Volcano, Alajuela, and San Jose at night are spectacular and you're far enough away from the ambient light of those cities to be able to star gaze at a sky full of light. One night there were some pretty major thunder and lightning storms in the area and it was cool to watch how the lightning lit up the cloud towers behind the Poas volcano. The food in the restaurant is well-priced and very good quality. A continental breakfast is included with your accommodation and you also have the option to add eggs etc for a nominal price. The grounds are well-maintained and the hiking trails are well-identified. Hiking to the waterfalls is a must and we were glad to have been provided with walking sticks for our hike. In addition to hiking we spent time at one of the 3 pools on the property and relaxing on our veranda on the super-comfy recliners. The gift shop offers beautiful art work (pottery, weavings, carvings etc) by local artisans. I wanted to buy one of the vases, but was surprised that shipping would have cost as much as the vase and so decided against the purchase. However, don't miss buying some the fabulous peaberry coffee which is on sale. My husband says it is the best coffee he's ever had. If we ever get back to Costa Rica, we will definitely stay here again. I highly recommend it.
