We stayed here for our last night in Costa Rica as a bit of a 'treat' and we were not disappointed. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly although the front desk was a little undermanned as we had to wait a while to checkout whilst the receptionist was discussing some tour arrangements with another guest. The pools and jacuzzis are clean and well looked after (one was a bit chilly for a softie like me). The views over San Jose from the infinity pool and restaurant are fantastic, particularly at night (there was a thunderstorm over the mountains in the distance which made for a spectacular backdrop). The restaurant is excellent with the buffet breakfast outstanding. So much locally grown tropical (and other) fruit to choose from! And the shop is suprisingly good value for gifts etc.

Of the three fine places we stayed in Costa Rica, Xandari was the most special. From the botanical trails, waterfalls, farmed foods, herbs, and even fresh eggs from their own chickens, to the stunningly beautiful rooms, and views, this place is truly extraordinary. The staff couldn't have been ore gracious, warm and helpful. We wished we had planned more nights at Xandari.

Overall an excellent hotel, good food and service, however there are a couple of points that need to be addressed by the management urgently
The wifi is hopeless and not fit for purpose , there were many quests with this issue, if a hotel advertises this facility it needs to work.

On check in the receptionist asked for my CC which I gave her, she then produced an old cc triplicate form that did not have a total and asked me to sign it, this would have me in hoc for the limit of my credit card, there was no negotiation. This was odd and it is a very dangerous practice, as one never knows where the slips are kept and who has access to them. We had paid for our rooms and breakfast in advance which made the policy even more absurd.

Dear Asunama,
Thank you for your feedback, we are glad to know you had a great time at Xandari.
Our new wireless Internet installation is almost complete, and only then we'll be able to advertise we offer it. For now, the limited internet we provide for villas in the West hill is not advertised, except for the main building Internet which is acceptable. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
We request an imprint of the credit card as a way to guarantee the payment of any incidental charges during the guest stay. We take very good care of this type of document and all confidential information. The imprint is returned during the check out. This is common practice in Costa Rican hotels and car rentals and we're glad to report we haven't had any problems with it. We look forward to your return trip to Xandari, and to good Internet signal in every villa, in the near future.
Regards, Marcela Arias, Hotel Manager

We stayed here 2 nights after our long haul flight. The view from the restaurant/bar is excellent across the city......it twinkles at night and is very attractive......
The highlights are the breakfast which is outstanding = a first class array of fruits, yoghurts and breads all beautifully displayed........the dinner was also high quality.....fish and costa rican dishes....

The rooms are adequate - a bit basic and it is very dark trying to find them again after dinner... one night a security guard arrived with a torch and the other, although we had remembered the torch from the room we were still left grappling with the gate into the room and then the door..... lighting is bad..... The pool was fine but the quality of the furniture quite basic.....

One of the sinks in the room didn't drain and the shower was only average. Lighting was generally poor......
The reception staff were surly - a nasty habit is expecting a blank credit card imprint to be signed off when rooms have been paid in advance.... we insisted on leaving a deposit of $1000 but this practice of an empty counterfoil needs to be stopped, it is dangerous.....

Its fine for a stopover but I wouldn't wish to holiday there.....

Room Tip: rooms by the main gate are a long way from reception and dark to get back to at night.

Dear Lesley,
Thank you for your comments. We are glad you appreciated our food and the outstanding panoramic views, but sorry to hear we did not fulfill all your expectations.
We appreciate your constructive comments about lighting. We understand your concern about leaving your credit card imprint with us at check-in, a typical practice for hotels & car rentals in Costa Rica. It is the way we guarantee the payment of any extra charges during the guest stay. We are very careful with this type of document and all confidential information at Xandari, and the imprint is returned during the check out.
We hope to have the opportunity to host you in the future…

Our family of four (including two young kids) stayed here in April for our last night in San Jose. We chose this hotel for its trip advisor rating and proximity to the international airport. This spot in the San Jose metro proved much better than we had expected! The staff was superb! They arranged for our car rental agency to pick up our vehicle from the hotel so we wouldn't have to make a trip into the city. We had driven a fair number of hours from the Manuel Antonio area already. I wish we had more time to explore the property!

I recently stayed here for one evening with my husband and two kids, ages 18 and 20, as a convenient place from which to catch an early morning flight back to the U.S. Aesthetically, it is easily one of the most beautifully designed places I've experienced. Not a bland or impersonal aspect to be found. From the beautiful gardens and trails to the colorful and artsy villas, each unique and with lovely hillside terraces overlooking the city of San Jose, it was an incredibly serene and lovely way to end a somewhat hectic trip! Other pluses include a friendly staff and a very decent restaurant. As our flight was so early (before breakfast hours), they provided a portable box breakfast, consisting of granola, yogurt, fruit, and muffins, which was a nice touch.

We stayed twice at this hotel during our Costa Rica Road Trip. Such a fantastic surprise! The rooms are all different, huge and decorated with a great taste. The view of the city from the big balcony is stunning. At the restaurant, we ate the best dishes of our whole Costa Rica trip. Their food are coming from their own property and the quality is excellent. Try the delicious Fajitas and the tender Sesame Chicken! Yummy! And my wife ate here the best Tres Leches of the Costa Rica. Congratulations to the Chef! Around the hotel, there is an amazing botanical garden. We spend there a lot of time. Everything was arranged with taste and harmony. We also appreciated the big and quiet infinity pool....And we didn't have time to test the spa... I stop now for the compliments as I don't want spill the beans here. I would prefer to keep this hidden gem just for us ;-)
We will come back !!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are Huge and well decorated.
