It is nearly a year since we visited and I still read the reviews and remember our
wonderful stay there. As many guests have said it is a perfect arrival/departure hotel as the courtesy collection is a great bonus. It also also easy to visit nearby attractions such as Paos. You need to get there early to get a clear view of the volcano and Xandari can arrange this for you. Still remember the wonderful reception from the staff, whatever the time of arrival, w were greeted as old friends. Lovely experience.

we spent our first 2 nights and our last night at Xandari, being less than 30min from the international airport, it's the perfect location. It's a very relaxing & quiet resort set amidst stunning botanical gardens, wild orchids and trails leading to waterfalls. The rooms are huge and nicely decorated. Complimentary soft drinks & cookies much appreciated. The ventilation 'au naturel' worked so well we actually had to close the small windows at night as it was a bit too chilly for us. The pool was lovely (no chlorine). The staff were very good and organised transfers for us without any glitch. The only downside for us was the 'musak' they played in the restaurant (the same CD over and over again) and the food should have been better for a hotel of this standard. But overall a lovely eco-friendly resort, perfect for starting/finishing your trip.

We recently spent the last two days of our vacation at Xandari with our 15 year old daughter and 11 year old son. From the moment you enter the lobby you are aware of the calm, peaceful, gracious feeling this hotel exudes. You will be surrounded in natural luxury. The spa is a must, it is truly heaven on earth. The free water/soft drinks and snacks are greatly appreciated. We were being transferred to the airport at 4:30 a.m. so Jose checked us out the night before and supplied us with 2 containers with muffins, fruit and yogurt for the morning.

I read the history of Xandari and my hats off to the owners. They have certainly accomplished their goal. I truly could live comfortably in Villa #3.

We will be certain to put Xandari on the list for our arrival and departure on our next trip.

The original Xandari Central, conveniently located 20-30 mins north of SJO aiport is probably the most ideal stay to kick-off or conclude your Costa Rican getaway. Perched on a hill overlooking the valley for miles, their restaurant, spa, villas with colorful original art, and natural walking trails provide an intimate and feel-like-you're-family experience.

Xandari especially shines in its sustainability and eco-friendliness, especially at providing value without compromising the environment. Fruits, vegetables are grown in their own on-site gardens, as is the amazing morning coffee. The villas feature high ceilings and intelligent venting that keep room temperatures ideal without air conditioning. We felt at-home immediately.

One thing you may want to consider for planning your vacation is that Xandari's location is most ideal for being close to the airport. There are amazing day-trips available from the Alajuela valley (we loved whitewater rafting the Pacuare!), but some of the "big" Costa Rican experiences like the hot springs, Monteverde cloud rainforest, Arenal volcano, are three hours (each way) from Xandari. This is deceiving for most North America (and European) travelers because the distances seems relatively small. So, take travel time into account when setting-up your stays.

Likes:
- Incredible sustainability concept & experience. More hotel experiences should be like this!
- Spa is the finest in Costa Rica. A fine value and worth saving for.
- Villas are spacious and perfect for romance

Dislikes:
- Xandari Central launched in the mid-90s. It's now showing some minor signs of wear in the trails, plantlife, textiles in the villas, creative comforts like a short warm shower, especially when compared to its new 2006 sister, Xandari Pacific.
- Congestion/Springboard for Day Trips. See location paragraph above. Again, Xandari Central is perfect for your first or last days in your trip but I'd recommend combining with other stays North or on the Pacific Coast (like Xandari Pacific, which we liked even more!).

We stayed at Xandari for one night, the first night of our honeymoon. I wish we would have stayed longer (but with only 2 weeks in Costa Rica, it was hard finding time). We stayed in Villa 5, which was an Ultra Villa. The villa was extremely spacious. One of its greatest features was the huge balcony area.

Upon our arrival, the room was decorated with rose petals, and we received a complimentary bottle of wine. This was a wonderful surprise. The little things like this set Xandari apart. The service was near-perfect -- this includes a flawless airport pickup and transfer, the aforementioned surprises in the room, a nice introduction to the property, and great restaurant service.

We managed to do a little hike to the waterfalls on the property, which I recommend. The food was good at the restaurant, and priced affordably.

This was our second favorite hotel that we stayed at in Costa Rica (tied with the Four Seasons, and behind only Lapa Rios).

We stayed at the Xandari spa for the last night of our trip to Costa Rica (29 January).

The location is excellent, only 20 minutes from the airport, yet high in the hills overlooking the city. This boutique hotel is beautifully designed, and decorated, with amazing tropical gardens and trails throughout the grounds.

Our room was excellent, very large, well appointed with a good patio and great views.

The food, in the main was excellent and the service most attentive. The dining room overlooks the city and at night the twinkling lights in the distance are a great backdrop.

We would recommend this hotel, expecially to end a busy touring trip of Costa Rica as it is a great place to wind down.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. It was the first part of our honeymoon and the beginning of 3 weeks in Costa Rica. The villa we stayed in (room 4) - an Ultra Villa was spacious, well designed and well decorated. The views were stunning and the outside space was huge - a perfect place to chill out after a long day walking. The grounds were amazing and there are waterfalls on site as well as coffee plantations. The staff were very helpful and the spa services fantastic - try the coffee body wrap...Food in the restaurant was excellent and very healthy. As the staff knew we were on honeymoon we were greeted by flowers everywhere and a complimentary bottle of wine - it really was a special place.
